My Mother-in Law just lost her MotherBoard (BX6) she was running her cel 750 on, and she asked me for suggestions on what to get for a small budget with future potential.

So im looking for something I can run a 750 duron on now but be able to take a Athlon-266fsb much later (over a year). To be honest, she never used her 750 to full potential.

Thanks for your help.

Will also take suggestions for continue using the Celery 750, if a good MB with upgrade future for intel exists (maybe a P3-Tul far in the future when there cheap).

a tbird 1ghz is around $80 right now. price difference between that and a duron 750 is around $40-50, but the tbird will last a lot longer. but if your mother-in-law just uses the comp for word processing and web surfing, a duron 750 should be very sufficient.

Well any current AMD motherboard will take an Athlon later on. Moving to AMD rather than replacing the board with another Intel one will definitely give you better future upgradability.

How about the $70 K7S5A from ECS using sis735 chipset? How fast will this go (cpu clock-wise) ?

Does it flat out suck? Nada stable?

Thanks
