I've heard that there are widespread and rolling blackouts in India, does this happen where you live? If so, you should not take the 280/280X.

Other than that, I agree with the others regarding the CPU; the i5 is easily the best choice.

Mondozei, it only happens in rural areas that some are remotely located, and it's not that frequent there either.

We have a pretty stabilized power distribution.

The R9 280 is an overclock 7950 Boost, so you're looking at 20-30% greater performance with the R9 280 depending on the game.

And which CPU cooler you guys suggest?

Stock cooler on the i5 4440 or a very moderate air cooler like the Hyper 212+.

Bottom line is that you shouldn't get carried away with an overclockable CPU and expensive HSF/CLC when you could instead get better gaming performance out of a faster GPU.

mfenn I truly understand that you are trying your best to suggest me the best possible budget rig, but the thing with R9 280 is, its very expensive for me Rs. 23k = 363 USD

the r9 270x is 14k = 247 USD, so there's a significant price diff. there.

Hello again!!

After multiple posts, tireless brainstorming and making a few adjustments to my budget, I've decided to go with the FX-8320 / R9 270X - though I would have loved to add that 280X in my config. list, its proving to be very expensive for me... Here's the final build setup -

I'd go with the Intel build for a few reasons:

1) The GPU is a good deal faster in the Intel build which is one of the most important parts of a gaming PC

2 ) Even overclocked the AMD CPU would have a tough time keeping up with the Intel in many tasks

nsafreak, though the statistics and the user experiences are right for i5, my heart is lying with AMD though...

The R9 270X 4GB isn't that bad? c'mon!!

It's not a bad part at all, it's just that it's not as good as the 280x. You're paying more overall for a system that won't perform as well as the Intel build. Never go with feelings when building a system. Always go for the best bang for the buck.

Seconded, although aesthetics (of the case in particular) is an exception to that rule

Looking at your latest builds, the price difference is about Rs. 7k. That's the same as the difference between the 300R and PC-K57 + Noctua cooler. So if you go with the build that I recommended, you do not end up spending more overall, and you get a faster PC.
