Looking for a rack mounted managed switch for a home network, preferably gigabit switch that support jumbo packets ,and port analyzer. Budget is around $1k or maybe alittle more. Any suggestion on brand and model is welcome.

Thanx

Heeheehee! You want what?!? There's no way you're going to find a gigabit switch that supports jumbo frames at that price level. One of the lowest cost gig switches you're going to find, with management and port mirroring, will probably be something like the Dell Powerconnect 5012... If you want jumbo frames, then you are talking the high dollar equipment.

I thought about getting dell switch, but from what I've found out from dell forum, these switches are having huge firmware problem. I think I am going to pass on that. I am researching if linksys, netgear, dlink has what I need.

The closest you're going to get will be the Netgear GSM712, assuming you're looking for 12 ports... That seems to be the next closest in pricing...

I found a good reference here. Its just a quick explanation of what jumbo frames are and why they are a good thing.

I've just found out that dell powerconnect 5212 support everything that I need within my price range.
The problem is, I heard and read from dell forum that some people have had bad experienced with this switch. If anybody currently use this switch, please share your experience! I will have to decide within the next month.
