The "cancel" button under the Message Text box redraws a brand new page, which adds an extra page in history identical to the last page viewed(thread).

If the "cancel" button acted like a history.back then it would be faster to go back to the forum thread listing page.

This may not sound too clear now, but if there is a need I'll repeat when I wake up.

Almost that, but your way could work too.

As it is it works like this:

Page 1 - List of threads
Page 2 - Posts in a thread
Page 3 - Reply to thread(where you change your mind and press the cancel button)
Page 4 - Newly redrawn Posts in a thread.

So now you're in page 4 and in order to go back to the list of threads you have to go to 3 then to 2 and then to 1.

What I suggested was that instead of creating page 4, that the cancel button sends you back to page 2. There you will have a choice to re-read the thread or just take one step back to the list of threads instead of taking 3 steps back to the list of threads.

Either way, the page you see after the cancel is pressed is the same. The difference is that the history is smaller.
