I know people often come to FI and ask for new forums to be added. Specifically, a common request is for a "Car" forum because there are so many car threads in OT. I know there have been requests for an "Audio" forum and several others as well. These requests always get turned down for a variety of valid reasons.
I was thinking, maybe we could use the little "Thread/Message Rating" icons (the exclamation point, thumbs up/thumbs down etc.) for something useful. Maybe as an alternative to adding whole new forums, we could just add a couple of icons to the list.
If there were a distinctive "Car" icon, then it would be easy to just look at the thread list in OT and see all of the car-related threads that were going on (since the icon used by the original poster shows up in the thread view).
You could have a little CD icon for Audio threads, etc., etc.
I think this would add functionality to the forums yet it would not increase the number of forums or the moderating load at all.
