Would it be less strain on the servers if after you post a message, it returns you to the forum rather than the thread? Instead of loading everyones posts, sigs, and everything else (which at times can be very long)... It would only have to load the topics page...

Personally i would like it because by reloading the current thread, nothing new is usually there, except what you just posted...

Opinions?

I like being returned to the thread. So that I can make sure their are no errors in my post and also reread the thread to make sure I did not miss anything. I have a feeling that by returning to forum people will be able to nef even faster.

Ahh true, i didnt even think of that... Very good point...

Would there be any reduction in the load on the servers though?

When I browse AT, I always keep a topics window open and right-click to open each individual thread in its own window (F5'd occasionally :)). Returning to the topic listing would be redundant to me, and it'd keep me from doing what minendo said. In some threads, esp. if I write a long answer, there can be many new replies in the time it takes me to post.

On some forum systems (phpBB does this, I think), after posting a message, you are shown for a second or two a small page that says "click here to return to message, or click here to return to forum" - and if you click neither, by default it returns you to your new post at the bottom of the thread. I don't think this will be happening, but perhaps it would be a way to please both groups.

That's an excellent idea. Or possibly we could choose this in the "customize" section, with the other settings related to thread display, etc.

I don't think that the current version of Fusetalk allows this. This is not functionality that Anand and Co. can add with the flick of a switch or a few lines of code.

It would probably lighten the load though not so much on the server as on bandwidth consumed.

I think it would be a good option to put in the "Customize" page....easiest way to satisfy both groups.
