Hey, I'm new here, so just try introduce myself 🙂

well to get to the piont 😉

i'm getting rid of my Samsung DVD-8x since it only reads DVD's and does not work as a regular CD-ROM and I cant replace it (warranty is over.)
Can anyone recommend me a DVD-ROM to buy, that is the same speed. I've looked at Creative. But that's about it.

I dont want one that is too expensive.

Just the best bang for the buck.

Advice is greatly appreciated.

Peace

I'd go with the Toshiba 12X DVD. Super-quiet and very high quality. You can get a new one for around $50 last time I checked.

welcome.

a drive i recommend and a lot of other people like too is the pioneer... either 106 (slot) or 116 (tray). check out the leaderboard on storagereview.com for more info.

Pioneers are good too. They are louder than Toshibas, but they support ATA/33 while the Toshiba does not.

Thanks for the advice,

I guess most people recommend the toshiba, i've also read at other places that its a good DVD.

However, my question really is, is it a good all around Drive, meaning can it read mostly all cd's that are out there? Since my Samsung locks up if the cd its reading is not a DVD. I dont want the same problem again.

Is there any Cons about the Toshiba?

Peace
