so far, here are the mobo's I'm lookin' at....

I'd appreciate anyone telling me if any of these mobo's support Tualatin's FOR SURE.
[*] Asus TUEP2-M :( max 512mb ram
[*] Chaintech 6VIA5T :D
[*] Giga-byte GA-6PMM (again, they have 815EP based mobos, but DAMN that 512mb ram limit)
[*] Giga-byte GA-6VM7-4E
[*] Epox 3VSM :( ata66
[*] Soyo SY-7VCM

more to come
TIA

I've been looking for one as well. Most all of the mATX Tualatin boards with an AGP slot use a variant of the Intel i815 chipset...which has that 512MB RAM limit. Most of the other mATX boards out there seem to use an i810 derivative which doesn't seem to include an AGP slot.

The only other boards I've found that you haven't mentioned are the MX3S-U and MX3S-T, both made by Aopen. The U board has 3 RAM slots but still has the 512MB limit. Both are micro-atx and have an AGP slot. I assume you have a strong need for >512MB of RAM. Are you planning on doing heavy graphics work on this system? Is there a specific reason it needs to be micro-atx? If not, you could get a full sized ATX motherboard and put it in a small mini-tower that accepts ATX mobos.

Here's the thing...I think you'll need to figure out which chipsets are capable of running a Tualatin CPU, then hunt down motherboards with that/those chipset(s), then try and find a micro-atx version. It's a long shot I think. :(

hey, thanks.. I was kinda hoping to stay name brand for mobo's - but it doesn't look like it's workin' out.

I figured out the Chaintech mobo is perfect (well, i could hope for DDR ram :p) but I can't find it ANYWHERE in Canada...
I have one more place supposed to call me back & if that doesn't work, I'll probably get someone from the States to order me a Chaintech...

I want tons of ram because this is a dvd-tvr box that'll be doing LOTS of encoding/burning, etc... :)

Yeah that looks like it meets all your requirements. :)

I finally got my PCI Radeon all in wonder working pretty much the way I want and have though about putting together a Celeron 1.0A or 1.1A micro-atx system to do some recording but I think in an effort to lower the way to high power bill I'm just going to toss the card into a machine that's on 24/7 and run the cable a ways rather than set up another 24/7 machine.

Just a question but I'm not sure of the performance of that Via chipset..Is that the Apollo Pro 133A or?? How does it compare to the Intel i815?

yep.. i posted a new WTB thread in FS/FT here. DDR or SDR so long as I can shove 1gb of ram in there..

For this box i had originally planned to just go w/ No agp & a PCI AIW radeon, but then when I bought 2 that i thought were awesome deals, they turned out to be PAL...
Then when I saw the RF remote & a chance to grab a 7500 AIW, i jumped on it.. I also got a friend to order me a riser card w/ an AGP slot so it'll fit in my new case... If I can't seem to get one of those 2 motherboards I guess I'll end up going to 512mb, or switch the AGP AIW 7500 for a PCI AIW radeon & trade/sell the AGP riser :(
I would much rather keep it though.. Cuz then w/ one more upgrade to my workstation's vid card.. it would go...
32mb - jukebox
64mb - dvd-tvr
128mb - workstation

:)

just FYI.. I found another Tualatin/AGP/mATX mobo.. Also made by Aopen... Model: MX34-U
That one even has 3 dimms for up to 1.5gb of ram support :p***drool*** but I think 1g will do me fine :)
I have also NEVER seen Aopen boards for sale easily locally...

Yup the remote controll on the AIW 7500 almost did it for me. The option of having it in a PCI system along with whatever the latest and greatest AGP graphics card is (and the $$$) kept me from going that route though. :)

Aopen is a good motherboard maker. Their BX boards were very good "back in the day".

Hmm on the MX34-U did you notice that they only list support for the P3 Tualatins and NOT the Celerons? The FCPGA2 chips are the Tualatins...I'd guess they'd work since the new celerons are basically P3s but that might be something to be wary of if you were planning on a celeron system.

You'll have to update this thread once you get everything put together. :)

truthfully, i should be starting a ton of threads on the stuff i've done recently..

i just modded an Asus P4S333-M to fit inside a G3 Mac case (modded meaning re-locating some capacitors) the modding to the case was pretty extensive too..

Yea, i bought a 1g tualatin celeron for my jukebox pc.. before finding out i had an older rev. mobo that doesn't support them... So i ended up trading my Dad for his C900
His TUV4X or C4X i think supports Just P3's like u describe.. but the Celeron's do work.. My 1G appears as a P3-1G, which it essentially is (cuz intel did make some 256k tualatin (.13?) P3's... I've seen them for sale.

This system is definitely getting the highest P3 Tualatin.. I'm gonna go 1.26 though, because the 1.4's are like twice the price :Q

Hehe a couple years ago my friend and I put our G4s into some InWin towers since we were fed up with only a single 5.25" drive bay on those cases. They are very nice though and I've gotten a ton of comments wondering why I would ever take a mac out of its shiny case. ;)
