Suggestion for the For Sale/Trade forum

I really like the FS/T forum, but it is absolutely HUGE and due to all of the threads being in one place, even browsing a day's worth of topics can take quite a bit of time.

Has anyone ever suggested separating the "WTB" threads from the "FS" threads? Most of us are either looking to sell OR buy, not both. There are exceptions of course, so one thread per user would be allowed in each forum. If I'm looking to purchase a component, it would take a lot less time to scour the FS threads if there weren't so many WTB threads (and vice versa).

If there weren't as many WTB threads as there are, I wouldn't have even thought about posting this thread. But the site obviously gets a ton of traffic and there are MANY users which means lots of each type of thread. I just think adding a WTB subforum to the FS forum would keep things much more organized and make the forum easier to browse.

Good idea? Bad idea? Either way, thanks for providing an avenue for us to discuss possible improvements to the forums!

where would the TRADE threads go? And ppl looking to buy AND sell getting TWO threads would a waste of space.

If I am looking to sell something, I just do a search for "WTB" and see who is looking for what.

I'm not sure how well it works, but "search" is always an option. From what I've seen though people have been dealing with it for a long time, and will continue to do so for a long time to come.

Poorly.

I've seen forums where FS and WTB are split into two separate areas. While it does work well in some ideas, it does require a bit more finesse on the part of the user to maintain both threads, especially when you want to post "FT" 😛

Why? There would be a maximum of two threads per user, one in each forum, and the result would be more organization.

Your search method works, but it still takes more time than it would if all WTB threads were consolidated to one forum.

Most people looking to trade are also selling something for which they'd accept cash or items in trade (there are several FS/T or "For Sale or Trade" threads). As for trade ONLY threads, those are in the minority. There are very few of them, and they could continue to be lumped in with the FS threads. WTTF threads could be created in the WTB forum.

It really wouldn't be much more trouble, if any, since most people are either looking to buy OR sell and thus would only have to maintain one thread at a time. The people that are looking to buy AND sell would simply have a thread in each forum. Sure they'd have two threads to bump, but at the risk of repeating what I said in my first post, the FS/T forums would be so much more organized and easier to browse.
