Mainly for the Tech Support forum, since it's mostly questions that get asked there, no discussions. Add the option to mark threads "answered" just like here in Forum Issues. That way questions don't get answered over and over.

But what makes your solution to problem the right answer versus mine? :)

That's why I don't think giving the Answer option to all regulars would ever work on Tech forum like this. We still have too many idiots and fanbois who'd post their crap and mark it as the answer. This would lead to mass confusion for those who truely need the help, and would lead to more repetitive threads.

That's why think it would be useful if certain, long-time, reputable posters in each of the AT tech subforums (OS, GH, Software, CPU, etc). had the ability to mark threads as answers. They wouldn't have Mod powers -- just the ability to mark posts as answers. There are many people in each of these forums that are widely respected and I think this might be pretty easy to implement in the future.

That way, the Mods can always focus on OT. ;)

When the OP has his problem solved, he can mark the thread answered.

I thought only the OP could mark a reply as the answer. That way at least people know he go the info he was looking for.

that would be a great idea. if an OP can report back and confirm another post as the answer, it would give other people the opportunity to search and find suitable suggestions (hopefully solutions) to difficult problems.

Yup, not only would it stop people from repeating answers/solutions, it would put the solution right there at the top of the thread so people don't have to scroll through pages of wrong answers. :)

DOH, my bad...I thought the intent was for those responding to make it as the answer. Letting the OP do it is much better. :D
