Suggestion for FS/FT...

Triumph

Lifer
Many people do searches in FS/FT to see what prices people are charging, especially since "Price Check" type threads are not allowed. However, many sellers will remove the price from their posts, and instead replace it with SOLD or something similar, after the product has been sold.

As a courtesy, I think it would be nice if it became part of that forum's practice to keep the prices in the threads, even if the part has been sold.

I do this now, mostly since I find it annoying when I buy something from someone, and can no longer match up the product I bought with the item description. A long time ago, I started putting the description in the PM so I would have a record so I could be sure the fault was not me seeing somethign that was not there. Also, if the price is there, you can learn more from the seller before you buy.

I agree about leaving prices and items in the thread and it has been discussed before. It's not likely to happen unless we change the ability to edit the post which will also not happen.

Dave, I quote what they are selling and the price in a PM to them so I have a record of that and their acceptance of my offer.

I don't see why it can't happen...FS/FT tends to be pretty good about following guidelines and common practices. Just sticky a note for a while, and put it in the FAQ, something like "Please leave your prices in your posts, even after the item has been sold."

My point is, we have changed people's practices before, we can do it again.

I am not arguing, I agree. But I think it would turn out to be an enforcement problem. What do you do to someone who edits it out? Who is going to monitor it? If there were some way to keep them from editing certain parts of the thread, like filling out a form, it might work.

Although I completely agree with you, this discussion has been beaten into the ground numerous of times. Unless the mods made it a FS/FT rule and didn't allow people to delete thier price, sellers will continue to do it.

The only problem is about leaving the selling price: I bet half of the sales don't actually go for the asking price. Haggling (SP?) is one of the best parts about FS/FT. So the selling price listed might not be the actual price it went for. I know I haggle and I get haggled. I would still like to see the price stay though.

I understand that there will be haggling. And it doesn't really matter, because if I see that someone else sold "A" for this price, buyers might very well haggle with me as well.

I'm not even suggesting to enforce it. I'm suggesting that we get people into the habit of doing this. But I'm sure some people just don't even think about leaving the price there. I think a sticky at the top would at least get some people into the habit. Doesn't take much work for a sticky, and a line added to the FAQ.

Again, no enforcement.

If there is no enforcement, I think we could try it out. Sticky it for a while and add a note to the FS/T rules. Worth a try.
