My daughter's friend needs a new college computer and has most of the parts. A friend bought her a matx asus mb with no agp port so she'll bring it back and I need a suggestion for a basic asus or some other brand and model mb.

She has a P4 2.0A with some ddr 2700 and a 9000pro so far.

I'm pretty much amd myself and have some P3 and earlier intel experience but dont know a lot about the chipsets etc. for intel.

Built in sound of course and lan too would be nice. Dont need or want fancy, expensive or raid.

LMK.........this'll be my first intel P4 build!

well it sounds like you are looking for a basic board and will do little to no overclocking right??

If so look at the VIA P4PB. It has sound(digital outputs also), USB2.0, firewire, ethernet, and a AGP port. It cost only $79 shipped at newegg.com

.Click me to see board :)

That is a great basic board for cheap and comes with a long warrenty.

You want something nice and solid. You can get an Albatron PX845PEV PRO mobo for $82. This is an Anandtech top rated mobo. Solid Intel 845PE chipset, 3Com Lan, 6 USB ports and 6 ch audio. It also supports Hyperthreading for future upgrades. 1 AGP and 5 PCI slots. I have this board and am very happy with it. Newegg Link to board

A couple good suggestions but I should have mentioned I live in Canada so dont have Newegg access and my preferance is a name brand like Asus or Aopen or Epox.

With tax, these boards run about 100 us up here.

Albatron is a new name, but a very good brand. Asus P4PE, EPoX 4PEA, not sure on Aopen. If you aren't overclocking, Intel brand mobos are as good as they come. Solid as a brick. They have a lot of different models. Pretty much any 845PE based board would work well.
