Looking for suggestions for a versatile video card for graphics design and photo editing. Doesn't have to be lightening fast, but crisp, tight text is a real plus! Prefer Nvidia, but open to suggestions.

Thanks!!

Arent matrox cards specifically designed for this task? Theoretically they should be better than both ATI/Nvidia cards for the tasks you named.

Maxtrox cards are designed specifically for 2D work in mind. I think ATI and nVidia are the same roughly in 2D with ATI maybe slightly edging nVidia. Either way, the difference would be too small for most people to notice or really matter. Personally, I'd be more worried about what monitor to get. A CRT beats pretty much all LCD's today and are cheaper. However, CRT's are a dying breed and they're extremely heavy. There are some higher quality LCD's that can almost match a CRT but they're super expensive.
