Suggested equipment for professional graphic design?

Greetings,

I'm curious if I could get some feedback from current graphic artists about what a reasonable minimum hardware and software setup would be for a graphic design position with a small (under 20 million U.S. dollars in sales annually) company.

Most the work will be for print and not animated. Web design isn't a must right now, but may be in the future.

That being said, I'm confident that at least Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, and Photoshop will be needed. Is Corel paint also a must-have?

I prefer Windows machines, but is there really a reason to have a Mac these days? The company will spring for a Mac, but I'd prefer to run Adobe Creative Suite on Windows 7 (even if running Windows 7 on a Mac). I've worked with Macs in the past... do they have plug and play support for most multi-button mice and do the Mac versions of Creative Suite automatically adapt?

Is it really necessary to get a "professional" level graphics card, or will a high end consumer card be enough? (A 30" monitor and a "side" monitor obviously take more oomph than a single 20"). Will more video RAM cut down on rendering times in vector and raster apps?

Any suggestions on professional level flat panels?

Should a pen, tablet, or touch input of some kind be considered a must? If so, is WACOM the way to go, or is an ipad with Adobe Eazel hard to beat?

Any suggested amount of RAM for a modern graphics rig? Would going from 4 processor cores to 8 processor cores be a big difference in most graphics applications?
