I'll agree with the .45 that most are suggesting except I might move down to a .40 cal because your wife might need to use it.

I use a .40 cal for conceal carry.

M4's and M16's but even they would prefer shotguns...there is word that some will go back with about 20 shotguns per company-sized unit.

As for getting M4's and M16's, no because of the burst fire mode...You can, however, get something very similar

Also, if you are normal, you'll be shaking like a leaf so a shotgun is a good choice.

Yeah I dont think I'd be mr. toughguy in that situation. And I dont believe anyone who says they would be unless they are former navy seals or marines. And even then, I wouldnt believe anyone (that is, without doubt) without military combat experience.

I grew up around vietnam vets, and I believe those guys wouldnt have a problem with it.. and some would enjoy it. Most shared stories fantasizing about kniving liberal anti-war opponents, they said they preferred that method to sniping (even tho one was a sniper) because they want to do it to their faces.
One was a dog-man in vietnam, guy was just a bit strange but the dogs he kept with him seemed insane.

Granted, I'd prefer to aim for his head and blow his brains out... but regardless I have no idea who or what just walked in.

Either way, I want a powerful shot that would take down a bear. :)
I dont really want to get sued. But if I do, I want to be able to lie and say I told him to get out 3 times and he refused and charged me, and I couldnt see his hands so I decided to remove his head.

I like the idea of that auto shotty from Counterstrike. Do those really exist?

Automatic & semi-auto shotguns do exist, but I wouldn't recommend them. There are a lot more issues with them than with a standard pump shotgun, and since you're a novice I'd strongly suggest a pump.

Semi-automatic shotguns exist, yes.

I dont need one, but it'd be nice to have more than one shot ready. Just in case I do get a bit ancie (I get kinda excited sometimes) and fire off like a dumbass and miss.
I'm not going to lie, this could happen to me.

Having a semi auto shotty might be something to look into. But I'm sticking with a regular shotgun for starters per reccomendations. That is plenty for little old me and my wife.
I'm not some huge beefcake, but shooting that 4/10 shotgun didnt particularly bother me (seemed more bark than bite as far as kick is concerned).

Are all automatic assault rifles banned yet? Something like that would be the ideal weapon if a civil war broke out, or my government quit defending the USA. Or I guess if China invaded someday (I'm fairly young, who knows what could happen), I'd like to be ready.

Perhaps you're not the prime candidate for gun ownership.

I'm going to have to say that I agree with the people that are suggesting the shotgun since it can spread a wider range and you don't have to be so accurate.

Huh? In my experience the shaking like a leaf happens after the emensity of the moment hits you, after it's all over.

I confronted a burglar, from which I sport a nice crease in my skull, it all seemed like it was happening to someone else and I was too focused getting him the fvck out of my house that it never really occured to me to be scared.

I didn't sleep for two weeks.

And everyone else here, or all gun owners feel completely confident in hitting their target everytime?

I think thats a pretty bold claim under pressure!
I hope you have combat experience AND are a great shot.

I'm willing to take gun courses through the NRA.. what else do you want?
I dont even have to do that, it is my right to have a gun.

The hit percentage in shootouts is 17%. That's for law enforcement officers with extensive firearms training. Nobody can hit their target every time.

Semi-auto assault rifles are legal and very fun to shoot get an AR15 if you can afford 500/600$ or so. AK47 are cheaper 300$. But AR's are better in my opinion because you can upgrade them later (kinda like pc's) AK?s you are stuck with what you buy (like a Mac)/.

Yeah I dont know how I'd react. Prob like you... scared (like one should be) prob comes later.

You didnt shoot him? Sounds like you took a blow to the head.

Thx.
Nice comparo :D
I can hack $600.. thats down the road in a long time if me and the wife enjoy the shotty.
But its interesting to know. I had a Tippman paintball gun that was semiauto, with a hair trigger its just about like an auto.

Auto would just be nice if there was widespread chaos in America and we were fighting terrorists in the streets.
Like most Americans, I'd like to be halfway ready for some kind of armageddon.

PS. Is Walmart ok for a shotgun? Or should I go to a outdoor outfitters like Scheels?

That?s right but its very simple, easier than building a pc.

Yeah, thought the sounds were from the dog or the wind, went to investigate and was taken by surprise and hit on the head with a 1/2" thick glass vase along with multiple pieces of furniture. I couldn't see with all the blood in my eyes and I fought with the guy long enough that I decided if he wanted to be there that bad, then maybe I would leave.

Wasn't a gun owner at the time. I am now. Kahr PM-40

Shotgun is good for home protection, but is not something you can keep at the ready all the time.

I dont know if you are honestly confused.. or just giving attitude.. but, if there was a massive breakdown like the government falls out, or we are invaded by the Chinese on land instead of being nuked to death.. I'd like to be ready for defending the homeland.

We had a revolution, a civil war relatively shortly later.. from our history would it really be that surprising?
I guess you like taking chances.. I dont.

Thats why I want this shotgun. And more to be prepared for anything.

Do you know who I am/where I work? I'm armed anytime I leave my home. But talking about defending the homeland from the Chinese? Are you fvcking nuts? If you want to do that, join the military...just hope they don't give you a psych eval.
