Suggest some one-touch universal remotes

I currently have a Harmony 880. Most of the buttons still work but the volume buttons are shot and the channel ones are starting to go too. The charging dock is a huge pita too. However I love the one-touch programming I have set to watch movies, tv or play a game. After that all I really need is volume and channel buttons because I'm using a software remote on my iphone to navigate the HTPC.

Not looking to spend very much and would prefer the soft rubber buttons instead (seem to last a lot longer than the hard plastic ones).

Yeah I am not a fan of the charging dock on Harmonies either. My choice is the Harmony 650. I think it is the perfect just enough remote. And it takes AAs. And is pretty cheap for what it is.

Given how you like to use a smartphone though, take a look at this:

It is more, but it might be a good fit for you.

I second that recommendation. I have that system and it is great. The remote that comes with it is pretty good too if you don't want to use a phone/tablet.

I have this remote and it works great. I rarely use the phone as the remote and prefer the push button remote. There is more work in using the phone as a remote (switching screens, etc) and it forces me to look at the phone. I can just feel the buttons on the push button remote and fine it much easier to use. You also can't switch back and forth between the phone and push button remote during a viewing session. It somehow gets out of sync.

I haven't had an issue with things staying in sync.

The only problem with the included remote is that it only handles three tasks. I need to use my phone to watch a DVD for example because my three tasks are (1) Watch TV (2) Watch RoKu and (3) Play Wii. For anything else I need to use a connected device.

The best feature of this system is that everything works over WiFi. Line of sight is not needed to control anything which is awesome.

These Harmony remotes with the fixed activity buttons can you also program the LCD screen to do additional activities? Right now I have a Harmony One on its last leg..

Another vote for it. I liked it so much I bought a second for the bedroom.

Yes, the 650 has three activity buttons plus two activities on each page of the screen. You can flip pages left or right for more activities. I think there's an 8 device limit.

I have had multiple harmony one remotes and after having two fail for my main setup I went to the new harmony smart control..... so much better than the one. I do miss the 30 second skips and not having the ability to select a single device within remote to control, but the overall experience is much better. having the hub you don't need to keep the remote pointed at your devices. a true, hit one button, and set the remote down and everything comes on. no charging, smaller foot print and cheaper. I have used the smart phone control but not a huge fan of it. over the network updating is also a plus

Another vote for the Smart Hub. One thing to note - every button can be programmed for both a long and a short press, so you can program 6 activities, not 3. And I think you can create even more an access them through a smartphone...

Regardless, love it, and the included remote is extremely nice in the hand.

I have the smart hub. I'm not a fan of the remote, though. Very small numeric buttons and doesn't light up in the dark. I don't care to user my cell as a remote so I'm stuck with these annoyances.

I had the same issue. I switched to the Harmony 650. It's actually better in hand. Only negative is the 8 device limit.

All your settings can transfer from your 880 as well. The 8 device limit was the only thing that was a pain.

I love the 650 although they don't last very long (buttons wear out).

While I like the ability to use phones/tablets as remotes in a pinch, there's something to be said for feeling buttons and not having to stare at your screen to change the channel or volume.
