I've had my eye on the Netgear GS108, but am not sure if there is something better out there.

It's just going to be for my small home network setup: Desktop, Router, Printer, Bluray, Printer, etc.

Please and Thank you!

i use the rosewill gigabit (port based QOS on 1-4) and push iscsi traffic over them to a far far away storage device. solid. my whole house is daisy chained with 5port rosewill gigabit - solid - no battery backup at home :)

Their switches are good. For the rest of their stuff, I agree.

get the 5 port. supports 12k jumbo frames. the 8 supports up to 9k. cant go wrong with either of them but pick whichever suits your needs.

Use code EMCYTNN54 to get it for $19.99 after rebate and free shipping! :)

Yeah, their switches are all I will buy from them anymore. the rest is prettymuch gone to crud... but their switches are quite good especially on a budget, they just work. for years.

Gone to crud? I'm not sure any of their other equipment ever worked. All the 802.11/g/n Wireless routers and PCI, USB, and PCMCIA adapters I have come across were rubbish. Most recently their KVM enraged me to the point where I was ready to yank it out of my cubicle and throw it down the hall.

I took a 10 min break and went to the next door cafe to calm myself. When I came back, I inadvertently found me a Blackbox KVM...so much better. These two years, I thought my NEC LCD from 2003 just sucked. It turns out it was the horrible image quality from the Dlink KVM switch. I though the ghosting was a result of the 25ms LCD...now I know to blame the Dlink KVM.

Why it frustrated me? About 50% of the time switching a channel doesn't work properly. Either the whole thing locks up and does not respond to keyboard or mouse input, or the keyboard works, but the mouse does not (though never the other way around). USB mouse that come with PS/2 adapters never work so I've been stuck with a ball mouse for a while. When it locks up, the only solution is to keep switching channels until it works correctly. On that day, it happened to be more like 95% of the time I had to switch channels it did not work right. Imagine you have to switch channels 20+ times before it functions properly...

I once attempted to get it fixed under warranty, but they said I had to send it in first and that it will be at least 4 weeks until I hear back from them about their decision.

Yes, way back when I used to swear by their NICs... way back when 100Mbps was quite new. I had gotten an 8 port 10/100 switch from them DSS-8+ when hubs were still the norm, and it had to have a cooling fan in it. Their nics were quite good back then, too.

Now if you get a 10/100 DFE-530TX+ you get a 50MB+ crapware infested "driver" exe which if you dig into it and know what you are looking for you will find the same old .inf file actual drivers they had given out WAY back then... That was when I gave them up for anything but their switches and they have degenerated from there.

D link 5 port gigabit...

Running the "DGS-10005D Green" right behind me now. Its been working great for over a year now. I get pretty decent performance with it.. I can max out a USB harddrive at about 23megs/sec from our server. I've seen up to 40megs sustained.. I believe.
