Just to throw my .02¢ into this thread and say I'd go with a Roku (I'm buying one next week).
I see two problems with AppleTV and the Boxee Box. First AppleTV doesn't do 1080p. It will scale 1080p content down to 720p. I didn't pay good money for my Panny Plasma 1080p TV to NOT use it to its fullest capacity.
Secondly, the Boxee Box is currently having issues playing HD audio (DTS-MA & Dolby True HD) Basically it can't right now due to either a software bug or a problem with its Intel hardware. It is a documented issue: http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=37535&highlight=audio. So if one wants any kind of surround sound with the Boxee Box, you have to use either the lossy DTS or DD codecs with your movies. As with the Apple TV, I didn't spend $2K on my home entertainment system to play DTS or DD. I want my lossless codecs dammit!
My only beef with the WDTV is that people sometimes complain about its interface and how "non-intuitive" it is. This is my biggest grip with Popcorn Hour products as well: http://www.popcornhour.com/onlinestore/. It seems that most media players are extremely unpolished products as we are still in their infancy stages. However it should get better. As much as I distain Apple and its products, I'd buy an Apple TV if it could output 1080p. They are always at the top of their game as far as "sexy interfaces" go...
