Suggest a $1000 Notebook

Well my friend is getting a laptop from his grandmother and he wants one that can play games like CS:S. He wants a 15 inch laptop that. There are no brand preferences such as Asus or HP only. He has around a $1000 budget for his laptop, which should be enough to get a decent one that can be used for gaming.

I did some quick research on some of my favourite computer sites and I got the following results. Acer Aspire AS5920-6313

I also found this Acer 5720-6279 . This one should perform worse than the AS5920 right?

Can you guys make a suggestion please? He doesn't have to get the laptop this weekend so he could wait for a while.

Canada doesn't have Black Friday. And we have school on Friday.

Well I'm back and my friend found what seems to be a pretty good notebook.

HP Pavilion DV9638US

Only downside are that it comes with Vista Ultimate 64bit, which will most likely pose a problem for him, and that it is a 17 inch monitor. I personally don't like 17 inch laptops because of the low battery life.

What do you guys think about this notebook?
