I posted a thread in here few days back about my problem with hard drive performance on a new KK 266-R mobo.Here is the link. I decided to do a fresh install to see if I can solve this. So the proud KK 266-R mobo owner, I would appreciate if you can take out little bit of your time and post the sequence in which you installed the OS and the drivers on your systems. Below is the specs of my computer. And what all I can tweak to improve the performance, specially my hard drive.

Iwill KK 266-R
Athlon thunderbird -850 MHz (100 FSB, doesn't work at 133 as according to my guessthe multiplier is locked)
256 MB Pc 133 Generic, Cas 3
IBM 60 GXP, 7200 RPM, ATA 100, 40 GB, seek time<8.5 ms as primary master.
Sony 12x DVD as secondary Master
ATI Radeon LE, 32 MB DDR
AMD approved 350W power supply.
Os to be installed: win2k

Most places I have read recommend:

OS
4in1 or Miniport depending on chipset.
DX8 and all Windows Updates/ServicePacks
Video drivers
Sound drivers
 
CRV's got it. Always load the chipset drivers for the mobo first, then your OS patches, then get the latest drivers for all your cards and use them. Video, then Nic, any devices like cd-rw's, then sound.
If your hard drive uses DMA, check your bios settings to make sure it's enabled for it. You may have to go to MS's site to get the ata100 hotfix for Win2k to run it at 100, else it'll run at 66. If you can't get dma to work and you're hd supports it, I had to go into my bios--integrater peripherals-onboard ide1 controller- master drive ultra dma- set it to disable-save and exit. After rebooting, go into device manager and enable it in ata controllers.
To unlock your cpu, check out all the how to's, I used the &quot;ink&quot; from a conductive pen and a pin to do mine. The pencil trick works, but can come undone over time. Once it's unlocked, then you can go into your bios and play. G'luck.
