I actually snuck into the doctor today(I thought I couldn't get an appointment, but I managed to snag a no-show) and he recommended some things for me. My doctor said that I am not eating enough. He said that I need to eat at least 5 heavy protein meals a day. He doesn't want me going on a diet to lose weight. He said my current weight is only off by 5-10 lbs for my build and height, but he says he thinks I need more protein. I don't eat a lot of sugar but I do eat a lot of carbs(bread, pasta, rice, etc). He thinks my sickness has an underlying cause(diabetes, thyroid... something) but he won't know until the blood test results come back.

He did, however, suggest that part of my problem could be the way I eat. I typically wake up and don't eat until after lunchtime. I might eat a snack for lunch... and snack until dinner. Now, I don't eat crap for snacks. I can't stand excess sugar or sweets, but I love my pasta and the like. I normally will eat a some kind of sandwich for a snack as well as some peanut butter crackers or the like. On mornings that I am actually hungry I will eat a bagel and cream cheese. For dinner I typically eat some type of meat+lots of carbs.

He suggested that I break my habits into 5 meals a day... with as much protein possible in each. Since I can't eat in the morning without feeling nauseous he said to start taking a protein shake in the morning... tuna for a midday snack, chicken, fish, or the like for lunch, another shake or high protein snack, and a nice dinner that is high in protein. He said I could have carbs, but that reading sugar busters might tell me what are some good things to cut out. He said if 5 meals isn't enough then to bump it up to more meals or more food.

Currently I don't actually eat that much(one reason he thinks thyroid). I typically eat 2000-2500 calories and my weight fluctuates a lot. It can go from 205-215 in just a few days time depending on what I am doing. If I am exercising and eating light then I drop to 205. If I stop exercising or eat 3 meals a day I jump up to 215.

I am not trying to lose weight(that will come later with cardio) but rather eat cleanly. I am trying to get a suggestion for simple meal plans for about 2 weeks that I can copy for another two weeks. He said after a month I should be able to tell a difference, and that it might even help whatever my underlying problem is.

Finally, he addressed my inability to sleep with Ambien. I really don't care for Ambien, but I am willing to give it another try. It never really worked for me that well. At first he suggested Benedryl, but that stuff for SURE doesn't work on me. I can take anywhere from 1-3 and it NEVER makes me drowsy. The only effect I get from Benedryl is to feel like sh1t in the morning.

At any rate...suggestions? Other than kill myself of course.

Try whole grain pasta and breads. Its different but you get used to it after a while.

Although your not trying to lose weight, I would suggest the book called "body for life." It basically spells out the diet your doctor has offered. It recommends dumping all those carbs and eating six times a day to better regulate your blood sugar.
