Suddenly, no wordwrap in Firefox - evidently a problem at Amazon site

I've been trying to fix this crazy behavior for over 1/2 hour. Suddenly with no apparent cause, text in Firefox isn't wordwraping. I went into Firefox troubleshooting and reset it, no difference. I've gone to far as to install an add-on, Toggle Wrap 1.9 for Firefox. Enabling/disabling that is having no discernible effect.

For instance, reading product reviews at Amazon.com, they all are way wider than my 23" monitor and in order to read them I have to scroll over for each line or copy/paste into an application where wordwrap works.

Any clue what's afoot here? Or should I just uninstall Firefox and reinstall it? BTW, I have been getting crashes in Firefox just about every other day, I was hoping the reset will fix that, will see...

If you're seeing crashes then it probably is some kind of profile issue. Resetting it or deleting all the profile folders should help.

Now, I think the issue is with Amazon's website. Try it yourself:

Find a product with a lot of customer reviews. Go to view all reviews. Order them "Newest first." The first page looks OK. But when you go to the next page wordwrap is not happening. A long review is all on one line. Try it and post back here. I tried in FF and IE, different machines...

Basic troubleshooting:
- test it without another browser
- test it with a clean browser profile

Someone please... try this on your system and report:

http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Premium-System-Builder-Version/product-reviews/B004Q0T10A/ref=cm_cr_pr_top_link_2?ie=UTF8&pageNumber=2&showViewpoints=0&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

Do you have word wrap there or not? I do not. I just Ghosted back my Jan. 1, 2014 image of this boot partition, same behavior (I did it for other reasons). I called Amazon support and the person I talked to said she did not experience the missing wordwrap, but when I go to that page all the reviews are just one line, no matter how long. It happens just on page 2 of the reviews, ordered "Newest first." You should get that page when you hit the link above.

I'm on Pale Moon 24.4.0 and there is no word wrap you're right

I'll post this in their forums

BTW, I also right clicked on the page and select "View in IE Tab" to see how it renders in IE and there IS no word wrap in IE as well.

I also loaded the page in IE 11, and there is NO word wrap

so it must be an issue with the site itself

I told the support rep that I'd tried IE as well as FF, a different machine too, so I concluded it's a problem with their site, but she asserted she didn't experience the behavior. I think she didn't comprehend the steps to duplicate the error. She said she'd report and I'd get an update from them by email or phone, but it hasn't happened. Hopefully your post in their forums will get the issue identified. As I said, it's just (apparently) on page 2 when viewing "Newest first." However, earlier in the day I thought it was also happening on page 3, so not sure about that.

yeah there are no steps to create that she didn't do well, its simply right infront of you once you open the site, there is no word wrap in all browser. period.

Reply from the king of programmers, Moon Child, the developer of Pale Moon

Aha! Mystery solved! Thank you.

I am going to make a comment at Amazon to that reviewer, politely chastising them for screwing things up. :colbert:

another interesting comment from Moon Child:

Moonchild said:
It's caused by the comment by Donald O Nielsen -- unless Amazon takes specific steps to not have comments break the site layout, this is normal behavior for tables and html.

Your mention of Pale Moon, that you're using it, got me curious and I looked it up. I decided to install it and I'm using it on this system. I like it, it migrated my FF stuff over automatically with the migration tool.

I called Amazon support and it was suggested I could flag a review as "inappropriate," and the team would look at it and take appropriate action. I did that, the first time I've ever done that at a site, IIRC.

once I switched to Pale Moon, I could never return to Firefox.

The interface is the same old FF interface not the new bloated google wanna be like crap. and the speed/optimization to take advantage of multi-core processors, give you the speed of chrome, and the awesome interface + addons of Firefox...

I'm definitely liking it, am going to install it on my other machines!

Evidently the default search is DuckDuckGo. I was introduced to it by an in-law ~ 1/2 year ago, never installed it, but have it now. He told me how he likes it because it avoids a ton of tracking stuff that goes on in other search engines (i.e. Google, for me in the past).

Pale Moon just recently switchedthe default search engine from Google to Duck Duck Go.

I never liked it. While it does protect u from google tracking, it sucks, never finds the stuff Google finds. and it lacks searching images and videos. I always went back to google

but I use this, install it in pale moon:

Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on

Also, here are my recommended add-ons:

Adblock Edge

Disconnect

IETab

TinyURL Generator

Photobucket Uploader

Thumbnail Zoom Plus

Google/Yandex search link fix

always ".com" - Google.com (in English)

Pale Moon Commander

Print pages to Pdf

LastPass

Xmarks

Thank you!

I have Tab Mix Plus from my Firefox. What do you think of that?

I currently have Adblock Plus installed. Do you think Adblock Edge better?

If I go with Lastpass that will be a big change for me. I've been handling all my passwords in my own very weak system. It's working for me but is lousy security. I know I have to do something, have followed a thread here on password apps, mostly comparing Lastpass with Keepass, those seem to be the two major systems tech savvy people are using. I haven't decided which one makes the most sense for me at this point.

Tab Mix Plus, that's a personal choice, nothing about security about functionality, i personally never liked it but to each his own.

I hate the fact that an AdBlocker has the option to allow non intrusive ads by default, which is what AdBlock is, I know you can disable that but still, it's a wrong concept. Also, with AdBlock Edge, my browser startup is faster.

What you are doing is VERY wrong my friend.

here is how I do it using LastPass,

I set once single very easy password for forums, example: firefox7

easy word, has a number just in case sometimes require a number in the password

Next, one very hard password for Dropbox

Next, hard but easy to remeber passwords for my email, example: C4m4r0$6 (that's 1337 lingo, reads like... Camaro6 but with a special character)

Next, a super duper hard password for my website's server, example: hGhx$le87!0

LastPass automatically fills anything for me, and you can always see them easily in the LastPass Vault

Make sure you set a very hard but easy to remember password for last pass itself off-course

Bookmarked! I'll institute something very soon. What I'm doing now, well, I have a short medium security one for forums and such, a couple of tougher ones I don't use much and a few others, some tougher some not. I store them in a system where I can look them up [usually just hints to what they are!] along with my user names and other associated info about the sites, etc. (I'm a database programmer). Overall it's very weak in terms of security compared to the carefully designed systems like Lastpass or Keepass, it's nothing compared to them. However, it's a cut above what a lot of people are doing. I've given it some thought. But I agree, it's "VERY wrong." It's probably still smart to have my documentations but the password side of it needs to change to a high security system.

FYI, here are a couple of very good threads you may be interested in:

LastPass or KeePass?

How do you manage your passwords??
