suddenly missing cd burner

Vagrant

I went to use my burner the other day, only to be told it wasn't fitted.
I can see it, the plugs are all in and checked, I can see it in the system section of control panel. Although it comes up as "(cd rom drive)". It used to say"teac 512 eb". My cd rom drive is labled as "atapi 44x".
It does not show up in explorer or my computer.
Any ideas how to get it back.

ps. It works fine in my work machine

device manager lists my "atapi 44x cd-rom", and my cd burner as"(cd rom drive)"
It used to say "teac 512eb".
No conflicts are listed.
It appears correctly in the Bios at boot up.
But it doesn't feature in "my computer" or "windows explorer"
If I put a disc in it, it spins up, but nothing runs off it.

could be you have a boot sector virus or your MBR is bad for one reason or another. run an up to date virus sca on the system & if that doesn't help try rewriting your MBR by booting up with a good floppy & typing in fdisk/mbr!
