I woke up this morning and suddenly I cannot open and use Internet Explorer 6. A moment after opening I get a Run Time Error 204 message and it crashes and wants to send an error report. I tried a system restore to a week ago, problem still occurs.

I have tried downloading a few Malware programs but most ask you to pay for them before they will remove any malware found. Malware may be a cause of IE crashing. Are there any good current Malware utilities I can download to scan and clean?

Recommendations?

Yes, I should upgrade to IE7 but first I need to fix the problem. Help!

Download Superantispyware and upgrade to IE7 or Firefox. You are asking for problems running IE6. There are many security issues that were fixed in IE7.

Do you have a antivirus program on your PC? Hopefully not Norton 1996 or something ;)

Also, try System Restore to go back in time to when the system was working normally. And I'd suggest you skip IE7 and go directly to IE8 once you get this resolved.

after scanning for malware and viruses, perhaps you can reinstall IE?

but definitely ASAP you should update to IE8!
