Suddenly I lost connection to the Net, any ideas why?

OS is Win XP Pro, I was using a USB network adapter to update the system (PC didn't have NIC card before). After I rebooted the system, I lost the connection from my network (DHCP enable, so everybody is in get IP auto mode). I check if my other PC was connecting, and by my surprise I have no problem going to the net. I tried two differents working NIC cards and nothing, when I open IE I get just a blank screen. If I do IPCONFIG/RELEASE it doesn't release it, it goes back to same internal IP 169.xxx.xxx.xxx
Any ideas ?

Best regards

You not connecting to the dhcp server, thats what the 169.254.x.x address is telling you. Have you tried a different cable?

Fixed, I found a really nice program that repaired the registry, it seems that when I removed AOL it corrupted or removed the winsock as well.
