Ok so this morning for some reason is very slow to open a program. First time its happened. my routine is to start my computer when getting home from work and I leave it running during the night until the next morning when its shut off when i leave for work. very strange that this has happened as it been a rock solid build for 3 years or so.
the specs are
windows 7 pro.
sandisk extreme ssd
asus z-97 MB

What I am thinking right now is something else is running in the background tying up the cpu. will need to investigate more after returning home.

Could the SSD be failing?

Yes, but it's likely something else.. Could be your SSD tho. Check CPU usage first & see if something else is going on.

well i checked out my computer, no malware, viruses found, cpu load is normal, ssd smart check is good so I presume the computer has no problems. What I did was to uninstall some previous updates where the install date seems to coincide with when a problem became apparent. Not sure but it seemed to help.

Could be processes running. How much free RAM do you have? How much free space on the SSD? When you notice the slowness, is the drive activity light solid, blinking, or no activity at all?

Also, look at the performance chart in the Samsung Dashboard and see if it shows dropped performance.

Ketchup, Burpo and Dr. Reid,

I never really pinpointed what caused the slowdown when opening a program. Scans by malwarebytes and spybot came back with nothing. What i did was to uninstall some recent Windows updates and this seemed to help a lot. Programs open as they should now.
