i left my comp on before work and came back on lunch to a blue screen.
i have had some intermittently bad memory for a while, but i cranked the voltage and it rarely ever has a problem in the 3 or so years ive had it...

it basically turns out that i now cannot have both my 36gig raptors plugged in. windows will not boot, it stays stuck on a black screen after post, or so it seems. i would swear i hear the boot drive still doing its normal thing/sounds.
the bios shows and detects both drives fine. i even dug out an old maxtor SATA/PATA pci card. stuck that in and on first boot, never installed drivers, it does the same thing. the card has its own quick post screen and shows it detecting the drive. this really makes me think its XP and not hardware, though perhaps the card wouldnt work at all without drivers. ive never actually used it/one before.

... but back to the blue screen. while messing with this crap, shortly after windows booted it froze again with the bsod. it wasnt a mem error it, i should have wrote it down, it was some sort of 'machine' error. i havent been able to find the exact phrase in searches yet.

maybe someone has seen this, or anything like this before. im finding it very irritating....

edit, i found that error. its Machine_Check_Exception o_O
