Sudden Socket 775 Heatsink realization

I've been running an overclocked Q9550 for over a year on a Xigmatek S1283 (I think that's the model) at 3.6 ghz. Is there any socket 775 heatsink that's appreciably better that I should switch to?

I'm a little shocked that it took me this long to remember which heatsink I installed over a year ago. I thought the Xig was better for lower speed dual cores, but am not absolutely positive. I have the cash and inclination to get a better one though, if it's worth it for lower temps. Thanks.

What are your current temps? The best heatsink for its price is the Scythe Mugen 2. Performs like a top-of-the-line air cooler for $40.

Since you already have a big tower cooler using a 120mm fan, I don't think you can get appreciably better. If you still want to try, then look for something as big or bigger with more heatpipes than three.

You should also look into compatibility with socket 1156/1366 in case you upgrade platforms.

Well, the Mugen would be a good one for me. It has 5 pipes and appears to support newer socket types also.

I'm also looking at the Megahalem and the Venomous X. Any input on those? They cost more for sure than the Mugen. I'll do a little googling when I return from lunch.

All the testing I've seen goes along with the theory that the Xig (and all HDT-based coolers) are less effective on overclocked quads. Rubycon had a pretty detailed post on it a while back.

That being said, if you're not seeing any instability, your machine isn't too hot or loud when cooling at load, what's the point?

Holy crap, what have I become. A year ago I would buy a new heatsink because I didn't like the way it collected dust. Damn this recession.

Well, reality check...I don't think the Mugen will really give you that much of a difference. Megahalem or VX will probably give you ~5c depending on fan(s) used but are obviously much more expensive.

At idle just running firefox. According to Speedfan 4.40.
