Sudden Problems with Windows XP

I have been bugged by a few problems that started to happen recently. I have Windows XP SP2 Home Edition. The most important is that my Add/Remove Programs button does not function at all. I double click it and nothing happens. I also have Quicken which is very important to me installed which has recently been giving me problems too. Every time I start my computer it says I have a problem with bagent.exe - Application Error. Through searching and reading online I have not been able to correct this either. Another problem is that a couple of weeks ago Windows would automatically sign into my name and the server like screen asking for id and password wouldnt come up but now it does. Is there a way to make it go back to automatically signing into my name.

Can somebody please help. I have ran Norton AntiVirus, fixed my registry errors through Registry Mechanic and used SpyBot to remove spyware. I really need help and guidance as to how I can get my Add or Remove Programs to start working again and to get windows to auto sign onto my name and if one of you guys are familiar with Quicken I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You

I worked on a machine a while back with similiar problems, it was infected with 7 trojans, that weren't detected with several different antivirus scans. A trojan scanner found them. It was cleanable and seemed to work fine for the day I ran it, but the owner decided for a fresh install, just in case. In this case it had a browser highjacker and several hundred spyware. Also a system restore wouldn't work because this stuff was attached to the system restore folder, so it had to be cleaned out first

BAGENT.EXE is Quicken's automatic updater, if that helps any. Perhaps it is trying to update and the XPSP2 firewall is interfering?

tjaisv: i tried using the system restore to an old point when everything was going good but it didnt help. i dont want to do a system restore before i have gone through all options and as waitman stated i wanna make sure that if i have any virus or trojan they arent attached to system restore.

waitman: i have just used norton antivirus. can you please point me to a good trojan scanner that i could use to scan that would detect it. and do you think spybot is adequate or should i get another spyware detector. thank you for your help/

LTC8K6: I have turned off firewall and rebooted but it still happens with the bagent.exe.
