Call my paranoid, but I don't think this was random. I'm starting the conspiracy theory right now that this is the work of terrorists!

This is what happens when doctors give anti-biotics for everything, bacteria build up resistances.

You want to read about scary? Go read up on drug resistant tuberculosis.

For the most part, E. Coli usually only affects the old, the very young, or people with weakened immune systems. For a healthy adult, most of the time E. Coli is nothing more then the hershey squirts for a day.

Yep, I know about all that... but given the coincidence of death, virility (this strain targets more adults >2 & <65) and drug resistance, perfect storm if you will. E. Coli is also a perfect target and used in a lot of bacterial genetic manipulation studies. Like I said, tinfoil hat. :)

The irony is that this broke out in Germany which actually has one of the most controlled uses of antibiotics in the world.

For the most part, E. Coli is harmless and normal flora of your gut. It's the pathogenic strains that cause disease. Washing hands and properly cooking your food prevents infection.

This is just evolution. The environment plays a big part in the evolution of any life form. Once in a while all variables add up towards a certain evolutionary direction and something new arises. It will happen once in a while and sometimes it will get serious. Which has not happened for a while now. It is better to get sick once in a while then to never get sick at all. Because evolution will follow and match. The more diverse and weaker strains exist, the less likely a killer strain will arise and create real havoc. But even that is not a guarantee that the killer strain will never appear.

Salads are disgusting anyway.

terrorists don't even have matching shoes to wear, i don't find it feasible they would have this ability.

Should infect everyone on Earth with that. Whoever can't fight it off, dies.

Many pathogenic microbial species are accounted for in a laboratory someplace, usually for research and antiseptic/biotic development for their weakness and strengths, etc. What I wonder is why it is only isolated to raw vegetables.
For a terrorist plot, consider that B. anthracis in the mail can be traced back to the lab it came from, making the chain of identification established later on. This can also be likely possible with this strain of E. coli.

Probably because those vegetables were near some infected cattle or some other mammal.

This looks like a cross between the African strain and maybe the O157 strain that we've all heard about. That is, the 0157 makes a particular toxin that causes the hemolytic uremic syndrome. This strain is causing that too, so it's almost certain that it's making the same toxin. I'm wondering what the antibiotic resistance(s) are, the African strain sort of has a general method for avoiding lots of things.

mom, if you were in a german sheisse video, you... you'd tell me, right?

Haha good stuff. There is a german sheisse video online that made my friend puke all over his bedroom....I think I was officially altered that day as well. :/
