Hi everyone,

I bought a new gaming notebook (HP Gaming Pavilion 15-cx0026nt) this month but I am facing with a strange problem. It runs my games (CS:GO, Apex, Dota 2 etc.) very smoothly even at very high settings but sometimes FPS suddenly drops, game stutters or freezes for 1 seconds. I updated BIOS, Windows and all drivers, changed Nvidia 3D settings and power management settings to high performance, closed unnecessary background applications and bought a good notebook cooler. However, nothing helped. I recorded a video with MSI Afterburner while all informations on the screen. The problem happens at 1:50, 2:30, 2:41 and 9:50.

I will be VERY appreciate if you help me to solve this problem.

Specs
CPU: i5 8300H
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: GTX 1050 Ti
Storage: 16 GB Optane + 1 TB HDD
OS: Windows 10 Home 64

Gaming performance issues, particularly frame dropping/stuttering, experienced using Win10 and NVIDIA graphics are not uncommon.

You have a very complex system that uses "open architecture" and diagnosing such system in order to attain sustainable high performance is akin to keeping up in race car competition.

It will be a labor of love to study/analyze system performance to detect and attempt to obviate bottle necks.

In addition, dont be surprised if some subsequent OS update interferres with successful optimizations.

Recommend that you study what others with similar complaints have determined for their systems and attempt their solutions.

It will be a labor of love effort, but these open architecture system cannot be all things to all people.

Good luck

I am confused, what makes my notebook open architecture? Are these devices designed for moderate plug and play users like me who don't want to labor for technical things?

Swap the Optane and HDD out, for Samsung 970 EVO/Pro/Plus NVME SSD.
Mod the cooling system; Reapply cooling paste to AS5 and copper mod any sinks for full copper contact(s). And run the laptop on a cooling pad.
Reload the OS for Win10 X64 Pro on Vanilla with minimal HP junk.
Upgrade the RAM to 16GB if possible, Windows 10 is a memory hog like no tomorrow.

The GTX 1050 Ti on a laptop, is really not all that powerful as many individuals are expecting, it's going to throttle with the processor. The 1050 graphics card desktop counterpart can do some serious damage, but even a desktop version of the GTX 1060 Ti struggles with some 1080p gaming. If you are expecting true fluid graphics with the fewest glitching, try gaming on an i7 (4th gen+), with a graphics card equivalent or better than the GTX 1060 Ti.

TDP (Thermal design power) can be rated higher on laptops than its factory specs when being pushed to the max from software, and not all manufacturer and laptop class cooling systems are the same.
