Sudden drop in cpu temps

according to Speedfan, core temp and other software.
I ran a stress test , the temps slowly increaed to 83C , I stopped the stress test and instantly the temps dropped to 65C, and then to 60C 10 seconds later. After about 1-5 minutes the temps drop to 45C
Is this normal ? Me thinks that the sensor is faulty or something. If so is there another way to find the temp of my cpu when stressed?

Thanks

no its normal becuase you are no longer putting any load on your cpu and it also means that your cpu cooler is conducting heat very well.

My 2500k with h60 on prime goes up to around 58C and drops down to around 40 right after i stop prime.

but 18C in an instant? is that even possible? I am no scientist, but shouldn't it take atleast a few seconds for the heat to dissipate ?

nope. the CPU is no longer generating anywhere near it's max heat, the whole point of heatsinks is to carry away heat as fast as possible.

with the original athlons, if you didn't have the heatsink on them, they'd start burning fast.

no because if u had cool and quiet it, it would also downvolt / down clock your cpu.

In a heat sense... u almost cut all the heat out.

Also diodes do not accurately messure temperature.
They are more indicators which we put C at the end to tick off thermal shutdowns.

If your telling me there accurate, well, then i have had serveral CPUs + GPUs which break the laws of physics by reporting lower diode temps then water temps.

Which can not happen in this universe.

ok assuming that an 18C drop in temps is possible, this would mean that my thermal paste, heatsink and cpu fan are working optimally , right? But if this is the case, shouldn't my temps not reach 80+ in the first place.

depends on what your system specs are

impossible to tell without knowing where your systems equalibirum point is.

That being the point where the equal amount of heat being picked up by the heat sink is max'd out by its dissipation.
