System was working just fine for a number months, and then after returning to it (while screensaver was going), the system prompted to select the current user [WindowsXP], after which it BSODed. After rebooting it attempting to run Windows Installer (unknown app), which experienced problems. After a few minutes the system BSODed again. Windows then wouldn't load properly, after booting into safe mode the system BSODed once again, during a virus scan. On the next boot, it attempted a scandisk of the drive which locked up at 41%.
We rebooted off the WindowsXP cd and attempted to install it on two seperate SATA drives, then changed one of the SATA drives (which was goingt through a converter) to IDE, and attempted disconnecting the other drive, other than the one we were installing to. We also attempted different WindowsXP cds. Each situation resulted in the system reaching about 20-30% file copying, at which time it would report that it was unable to copy the file.
We then hardware reset the BIOS, and continued to make efforts, all of which failed.
System Speicifications:
Abit NF7-S v2.0 Motherboard
AMD AthlonXP-M 2500+
2x256MB Mushkin Enhanced PC3500 Level 1
IDE Maxtor 40GB
SATA Seagate 120GB
Thanks for any input as to what the problem could be.
