Sudden CPU Spike problem Nforce2

I've been getting these cpu spikes out of no where. It's most noticable when I'm listening to music with the soundstorm and suddenly the music starts to skip, pop, hiss, distort. This also happens while I'm playing a video game (the sound distorts but the game runs fine). I kept the task manager open to see where the spike was coming from but it doesn't show me any process that utilized 100% cpu at that point. It would stay constant at 4% or so and spike to 100% for 3-5 seconds and go back to 4%. This happened before I overclocked. I can't find anyone else with the same problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Specs:
gigabyte 7N400 Pro (nforce2)
2500+ (clocked to 3000+ with Aeroflow, vcore at 1.75V)
corsair 4x256 XMS PC3200
2x120GB WD 8MB cache
1x160 Maxtor 8MB cache
Pioneer A06 DVD-/+R
Liteon 16x 166D DVD-Rom
Enermax Whisper 431Watt PSU

I had that same problem only after I overclocked my 2500. When I ran it stock briefly I had no crackling or anything during installs but after overclocking while I'm installing it did crackle while the CPU was under 100% load. I disabled my onboard and popped in a Hercules. Dropped my cpu temps 9C as well as allowed me to get 11x200 with my stock hsf/stock voltage. 🙂
