Sudden apartment inspections: routing out terrorism

So I get home today and what do I find? A letter telling me that my landlords are doing an "inspection" for summer maintenance. I've lived here for six years and they've never done an inspection like this. With my bullsh1t detector blaring, all I can come up with is the warnings about terrorists attacking apartments.

I sort of doubt that's what it is, but if it is, that is ridiculous. Is your landlord some kind of wannabe FBI agent?

I live in a townhome, and they've done the same thing. They check up on lighting on my balconies, change my air filters, check the fire alarm, eat my food, steal my clothes, err...

I seriously doubt it has anything to do with terrorists.

I dunno what the hell they're thinking. If I didn't have a MS seminar to attend tomorrow I would stay home just to make sure they don't steal stuff. Heck, I might skip most of it and telecommute.

I'm so glad I'm closing on the new house at the end of the month.

Your landlord can not enter your apartment without your consent. If there is water gushing out from under your front door or if there is the smell of natural gas emanating from your abode, then the rules are different.

This is prob not politically correct, but are you from the middle east?

One of the Dr's I work with is Syrian (he's a hell of a physician, ENT fellow that moonlights in my ER). He & his brother have had some calls from the FBI etc...

HappyPuppy, read your lease agreement again. It may not apply in your case but I know in a couple of apartments that I have rented over the years the lease specified that the owners could do a monthly inspection and or maintence of the apartment.

It's possible they had someone trash an apartment and skip out on the rent. It could be a lot of things or it could be they are inspecting because of the reports of terrorists. It's not a big deal.

They can enter if they give 24 hours notice. Less than that requires the gushing water.

No, I'm not from the middle-east. My next door neighbors are though. It's a family. This is Wisconsin though. People who live here seem to have a weird delusion that we live someplace that matters and will take the warnings as personal instructions to freak out. I don't think most of them have ever even been out of the State. They're probably too afraid.

The folks in the Federal building in Oklahoma were pretty sure they weren't a target too...

We're living in strange times

Today the casual inspection, tomorrow the forced anal probe. :)

I doubt it's related to terrorism. Possibly they've started doing it to appease the local government busy bodies or fire department or insurance company, etc.

Fire safety is a good guess, another one is they're planning to sell the building to another company and want to fix any big problems before appraisal or the other company's inspection. My apartment complex has changed hands twice in the last 6 years.
