It's amazing how a movie literally consisting almost solely of girls in corsets wielding machine guns could be so ridiculously boring.

I enjoyed it...

Good soundtrack...

Good symbolism...

I liked that there were no sex scenes and that they even left "babydoll's dance" to our imagination...

didn't they just boringly reboot superman 5 years ago?

Yeah and it sucked, so now they're gonna try to fix it. Kind of like how they tried to reboot the Hulk... it sucked, so they did it again (though that was technically a sequel). I liked the newer Hulk movie for what it was. IMO the Hulk is a pretty dumb character so it's hard to make a solid movie out of it anyway. I feel the same way about Thor so I probably won't care much for that movie even though it may be the best they can do with such a silly character.

At least Superman has a chance to be interesting. I also heard they're going to get Nolan to help produce or something, to give help guide it towards the darker tone seen in the Batman movies. Supposedly the new Superman will be quite a bit more vulnerable instead of the unstoppable force he normally is. Might make it more exciting to know the hero can actually be defeated.

Zack Snyder should be directing music videos, not making movies. From his terrible remake of Dawn of the Dead (I know some people liked it) to 300 to Watchmen, to his latest abortion it's pretty clear he should stick to visuals only.

hmmm. I'd think a mac guy would appreciate the visuals more than anything else. :hmm:

Anyways, it looks like this movie will be a BRD rental

Great soundtrack. The rest was awful. It's the culmination of Hollywood fantasy, a sci-fi special effects bonanza of violence and explosions utterly disconnected and devoid of any context or meaning. Snyder needs to stick with directing and avoid anything where he has authority over the script, let alone penning an entire one.

Going to see it tonight. Hopefully ill like it as much as im hoping i will. But im a big visual person, especially with these types of films. Im not expecting Oscar material here. Just good visuals, action and fun.

All 4 of us liked it a lot. The visuals are amazing. The story was interesting. Obviously not award worthy and never intended to be. But a good fun action flick with hot chicks.

Will buy when on blu-ray. Ok well not buy. Redbox rental and rip. But still :p

Great soundtrack. Great visuals.

However, everything done could have been told in 1 minute. AND, it was told in 1 minute; at the end.

I was honestly hoping for some sort of a twist, leading to future stories and movies; nope, not the case at all.

See it when it's out on Netflix. But, don't spend $12 to $15 on this. If you REALLY like the eye candy, then I can see this becoming a part of your BluRay collection.

Also, Baby looks more Asian than white at times. Not a big deal, but there is something unsettling about a bright blond Asian,...

Overall it was a fun movie that was enjoyable. Nothing amazing. Bit of a surprise ending. Only problem I had was the excessive use of slow motion, even for Zack Snyder.

You know how drinking coffee makes everything seem really slow because you're moving and thinking a lot faster than usual? Maybe there's some drug out there that does the opposite of this. Watch the movie while high and it would appear to be normal speed!

I saw this movie over the weekend. Not great but not bad at all.

Love the intro and soundtrack. Visual and audio/music score are great. Stories/plot/character development = meh.

A little twist at the end is not bad either.

Just because Watchmen and 300 were decent doesn't mean Sucker Punch is automatically good... mostly because it's not. I'm also not guessing based on previous films... I've seen the movie and it's awful. Like I mentioned, the only redeeming quality seemed to be the soundtrack, which was interesting.

One thing that bothered me that normally doesn't when I watch movies... the theater was too loud. My ears were actually bothering me by the time the movie was over, and I've never had that happen.

But anyway... I think the one big difference between this movie and his other movies is that he wrote the story. He was one of the screenplay writers on 300, but obviously it was based on Frank Miller's 300 graphic novel. He didn't write Watchmen's script and that was based off a graphic novel as well. It might simply be safe to say that he should possibly lay off the weird story writing.

Totally, completely, utterly agree with that bolded comment. I only mentioned that b/c his previous movies were such quality (for what they were intended to be), that it is enough to give me the benefit of the doubt and check out his new films in the theater.

I also hate the loudness and piss-poor soundmixing of modern movies (fucking ridiculous brick-head mentality that over-samples subwoofer to the point that you can't garner any notion that this is a movie--A VISUAL MEDIUM first, not a brain-numbing bassgasm fest. Again, I blame young dumb males).

The reviews sound really bad. And yeah, if this is Snyder's own story, then it could be an issue that he's great at adapting good work, but terrible at creating his own.

Still, he's got more quality work out there than a guy like Shamlamadingdong. :)

If they cut out most of the fluff it'd be good but it was extremely drawn out.

You mean the actual story? Superhero themes are only good if there is rational behind them--pointless action does not a movie make; and there is simply too much going on in Watchmen that it could be short. 2.5 hours is about right. To do the graphic novels verbatim, it would be a 6 hour+ movie.

The only parts that I thought were fluff were the ultra director's cut that edited in the Black Freighter storyline (the animated bits). Completely useless in the film.

Saw this at the arclight dome last night. Entertaining. Great sound and cgi. Girls wearing next to nothing. What else do you want in this genre?

My votes for good comic book films are Iron Man 1, Superman Returns, and the 3 Batman films.

lol, you can't be serious??

:D

I thought Iron Man 1 was excellent. For me, after Watchmen, it's Spiderman 2/X-Men 2; Batman Begins/Batman (Michael Keaton and Nicholson).

Spiderman 1 was also quite good, I must say. The Dark Knight is awesome, but not as good as the first one.

Watchmen has some serious fanboys. It was quite mediocre.

I'm coming from a film-first mind set, I should say. I knew nothing of Watchmen before the film came out. Went into it completely blind--thinking, well it looks like it could be cool, but could also be completely awful.

I was blown away--the fact is, it stands as a perfect example of the genre. It truly is all you can expect for this type of story. The proper does of over-the-top story, human cynicism, overreaching but genre-typed dialogue, humanity, over-inflated yet multiple, conflicting senses of justice.

great visuals. awesome. I am anything but a Watchmen fanboy.

Well your theater may of been calibrated improperly. Film is not just a visual medium. 50% of the experience is sound. The subwoofer is used for low frequency effect or LFE for short. There was a lot of use of this in the film but that was its style. I wouldn't say the lfe was fatiguing they gave it room to breath. Impacts would not be impactful if the lfe is going full bore.

yep. Watchmen was the best superhero movie released to date--easily.

haters gonna hate, mostly cause they have the taste of 15 ear-old boys, but whatever. let them have their Transformers.

Watchmen was about as perfect as it gets for a film that lives in the superhero trope. Everything else, though much of it quite good, sure--is silly compared to Watchmen.

I preferred Unbreakable though I still liked watchmen and I'm reading the manga now.

the manga?

lol. someone bitched at me once for calling manga a cartoon, when that is all it is. then someone else pointed out to them that it is simply Japanese for cartoon, right?

Anyway, Watchmen is not Japanese, so it should not be considered "a manga," correct?

sound is useful for film, certainly, but when telling a story through film, everything should be done visually, if at all possible. It is a visual medium, and if your characters can't convey emotion and intent without dialogue, then you're failing.

sound is important for big bangy action background music, but again--if all you have is big bangy explosion and no substance, then you don't have a film. You have a Michael Bay movie meant for retards.

:awe:

remember when "talkies" were considered by all as the death of film? Well...I don't either as that was before our time, :D, but it remains true that everything is conveyed first as a visual, and all sound is considered supporting effects. The home theater enthusiast believes, in their own mind, that this is not the case. But it remains true. (And I do like big sound, and I've spent a pretty penny on good sound).

hell no. and i read the book. The sex scene alone with attendant musical score knocks this down several pegs. The Snyder cheese factor brought it down several more. Without J.E. Haley it would have been a complete waste of time. Superman I or II was better than Watchmen. Xmen 1 was better. Iron Man 1 was better. Dark Knight was way better. Transformers was not.
