Now who was that that told me that W8's were flying off the lot?

:p

You can probably find them in the same thread where they said there was no AWD 330 & the W8 Passat was reasonably priced.

I didn't think they would sell well, and I think they were also overly optimistic.

Wonder how it will fair when they introduce the manual transmission?

Now if they dropped the price 15 grand...this would be the absolute best car to get.

1500 haha. That's because it's a brutally overpriced vehicle. Most people evidently don't want to pay $40k for a freaking volkswagen.

If your going to be paying $40k for a VW....shouldn't you be going for the AUDI version instead???

I'm not sure where the $40k numbers are coming from. You could probably walk into a dealer and get one for $36,500, and that's a $1000 over invoice. A real good negotiator could knock off another $500 putting it right at $36,000.

Expensive yes, $40,000 no.

When the 6 speed get's here, is it supposed to be an either/or thing, or will it be cheaper than the auto?

They will when the Touareg comes out. I think NFS4 will agree with me on that one...

Well a sports car is in a totally different category. As it is now $36-40k is too much for most people evidently for a VW passenger vehicle.

The only reason why you could POSSIBLY get a good deal on one is because they're sitting on the dealer lots collecting dust:p...that being said, you typically WOULD NOT be able to get a good deal on a low volume model like the W8 Passat. Afterall, they were expecting to sell 5,000 of them so giving you a discount on the car isn't exactly something that the dealer would do.

Either way, it's still too much for a friggen Passat.

Yeah. But I want the ACCORD so I can show I'm still an 'average guy' who has no idea how to spend money.

IMHO it's a mistake that VW is attempting to make their cars more upscale than the Audi brand.

Actually, it looks to me like WV priced a W8 Passat sedan with the $1500 sport package at $39,975. The wagon is $800 more, or $40,775. I guess we're all getting the idea that it's a $40,000 car from VW.

Even if you could get it for $36,000, $36,000 is a mighty long stretch from the $22,300 that the Passat starts at. Who wants to pay $36,000 for a car that looks exactly the same as their neighbor?s $22,000 car? Earth to Volkswagen, hello? Hello? Come on back!

Although not "exactly" the same, they are very close
- base mustang vs. mustang cobra svt (15k vs. 38k)
- base camry vs. lexus es300 (VERY close looking - $18k vs. 32k)
- base 3 series vs. top end 3 series ($28k vs. $45k)
- base subaru outback vs. 3.0H6 version ($9,000 difference)
- base focus vs svt (13k vs 18k)

The accord even has a $12,000 difference between it's bottom end, and it's top end.
