is there such a thing as dummy drives to put in place of the optical bay for laptops? To save weight when not in use and protect from dust, etc>?

or maybe a cover or something

I had a dummy drive for my T22, and I know they make one for the 700m as it was an option when I purchased mine. I would say that it probably depends on the manufacturer of your laptop.

I have a 700m and I'd like to find a bay cover as well. I rarely use the optical drive.

For Dell, they are called TravelLite Travel Module. Additional USD$9 if you bought with the laptop. Don't know how much it costs buying separately.

All of the HP laptops that we get at work come with those modules to slide into the empty bays.

The IBM laptops come with the "blank" modules already installed, and I have to remove those and insert the CD-RW drive.

Never saw the option for those when I bought my Dell, though it probably would be nice to have one for weight reasons :)

I normally run everything on my laptop through my desktop anyways.

I'm not gonna pay $10 for one though

My wife used to have a Dell Inspiron 4000 that came with a blank. My former Dell Latitude D800 didn't have one, but the drive was easily removable. If your drive is easily removable, just pop it out and use it with the empty spot. The blank is just cosmetic.

yeah but it looks better to have the blank inserted, and it also helps prevent getting dirt or other junk into the slot as well.
