Why on Earth do we allow the State to charge us 3 arms and a leg for a STICKER?!?!??! My birthday is coming up next month, which in return means its time to renew my tags for my car. I don't drive anything flashy. It is a 1997 Ford Taurus GL. $73 bucks for a sticker!!!

What kind of car do you drive? How much does it cost you?

Costs about $120 perhaps for my 00 maxima and less than 100 for the 97. It's not that you're paying for the sticker. The sticker represents that you've paid taxes, and they're wasted--I mean used--no, I mean wasted, on public crap.

i pay about $420 AUD a year road fund tax/third party cover for my mazda 323 (that said it is a flat rate for all cars) in WA 😉

my folks pay about $800 AUD for their Prado, and ~$650 for my mums Micra 😛 But they live in Canberra (ACT) 🙂

$73 is nothing. Some states charge hundreds for that sticker. Its a wealth tax and a consumption tax. You use the roads, you pay. You have lots of nice vehicles you pay.

In AZ My truck ('03 Chevy S-10 LS 2WD V6 Ext. Cab) would cost me about $175/year payable at the MVD.

Now that I'm in VA it costs me: $15 for inspection sticker at a licensed mechanics shop, plus whatever they find wrong has to be fixed. $25 License plate tags at the DMV. $25 County Tax Registration sticker at the courthouse. $75 For County Tax (Twice a year) payable by mail. All totaled up I pay a minimum of $215/year in Northern VA.

depends on the year of the car...mine cost 33 bucks 🙂..then i got 22 dollars in taxes lol...someone got their math education in the california school districts

The first registration on my car was $450. It is much less now after 8 years.

Oh, god forbid I should EVER have to pay for the upkeep of government and all the services I enjoy :disgust:

I think it's $26/year in PA.

Be thankful, I enjoyed those price in PA.

AZ is absolutely PATHETIC.

I could not imagine driving a 100K car in Phoenix, well over 1k per year.. But I guess it's all relevant.

OTOH, The roads in AZ are much better than the pot-hole plagued roads at home (PA)

😛

In California, car license fees are a user fee dedicated to road maintenance, as is revenue from gasoline taxes.

Get over it. Roads don't repair themselves, and someone has to pay for these services. At least, what you pay is directly related to the service you're getting for the money.

I'm more pissed that, in most areas, there's no gas guzzler tax on SUV's.

Move to indiana, I think its less then $35.
I know tax, title, and plate renewal till next year september cost me $53 for all of that on my 92 chevy g20.

Just another reason I moved here out of IL. Cost of living is soooo cheap.

i don't know what those registration fees are spent towards, but i would think that the theory is that the money is spent towards things that people who have cars need -- roads, salaries for the DMV, etc. it makes less sense to ask the general public to pay the equivalent taxes if not everyone has a car.

$73? I paid $180. And this year I'm going to have to drop the $60 for a smog check in addition.

You're not paying for the sticker, you are paying for taxes that help keep that nice road being a nice road.

Man... so it sounds like Nebraska has one of the higher fees. Sucky. It might just be my county though, about to move to a different county so I guess I'll find out.
