Good News. MSI X1800XL 512mb successfully flashed to X1800XT.

Also 2 confirmed reports of this card flashing to XT PE and running stable.

Price dropped from $219.99 to $199.99 w/free shipping. Available at ZipZoomFly.com.

Of course YMMV so purchase at your own risk.

yeah at ZZF its $219 with free shipping or $1.99 for 2 day shipping.

Do you know if they are decent overclockers? I googled it but didnt find much info about the card. Seems like they are kinda scarce.

in my opinion, i would personally click on the "buy" button...overclocking or not. that is just way too nice for the $200 price point.

i don't know much about this exact card but knowing how the x8xx and x18xx, x19xx series are known to have room for overclock.

the stock cooling with DHES (direct heat exhaust system) really makes a big difference with these cards nowadays.

Ok i think im gonna grab one cause im sittin here with onboard graphics and i just recently upgraded from a DFI NF3 board running a 9600xt AGP card....LOL. Although i could play oblivion at lowest settings imaginable and still only get frame drops into the low 20s in city  I just couldnt justify the $200 upgrade unless i get some blessed eyecandy. :)

Thanks for the help man.

No problem....I just know a good deal whenever I see one.

This thread should be in the Hot Deals section :)

edit: nevermind, somebody already posted it over there.

such a card may not be able to use 512mb much
it is equivalent to a 7800gt

forget it

stick with 1800xt, better still 1900XT

Thats why i was interested to see some overclocking results on the card. If it could reach XT speeds it would be like getting a $100 discount. I could be wrong tho.

Also my entire system cost me roughly $400 bucks so i dont see the point in spending another $400 for a graphics card. Even $200 is pretty steep for me as i am a budget builder, but i understand it is needed to get decent quality graphics.

As of now i had a choice between the 256mb x1800xt for $250 and the 7600gt for $175 until i saw this card for $219.

Well equivalent or not your forgeting its amazing price. 7800gt's run $300+ nowadays and 7900gts around $260+. This card has close performance and its alot cheaper, also equiped with 512mb of vram its a steal for this price. This is what the x1800gto's are priced at and those only have 12 pipes!

7900GT>1800XL, how the hell do you compare them

I will rather spend those 50 odd bucks and get 7900GT
7800gt compares with X1800XL
why not take 256mb x1800xt

Well i was under the impression that new games comming will be more likely to utilize 512mb of ram. I had also considered the 7900gt but it is still closer to $300 than $200 which is my current budget and also a 256mb card. I had also considered the XT card but again the 256mb card is only one within my price range and its getting really close to being out of my budget as well.

If my budget was set to $300 i would be getting an x1800xt 512mb and problems solved. However i dont see the $100 benefit if i can overclock the x1800xl to near xt speeds and get a decent card for $200.

Edit: And PheonixOrion that picture in your sig looks like Spock is about to slip the Capt. some vulcan tongue :p

I dont think you will regret your purchase especially when upgrading from a bloody onboard geforce 6100! The price is amazing and i do belive i heard people reaching almost XT speeds with the XL. Keep us informed of how you go on.

Will definately let you know what i decide to do and thanx for the input. I would really like to see some benchmarks of this card and overclocking results before i make a final decision tho.

So youre saying i should choose the x1800xt 256mb version over the x1800xl 512mb version because the core would not benefit from the extra Vram?

Also i just read an interesting thread at TechPowerUp where someones 512mb XL was really just an Underclocked XT with an XL bios. Although upon flashing to the XT bios he seemed to have messed it up. Heres the link to the thread. Link

This card is offering high end performance at a budget price point. The 256mb x1800xt might outperform it but im strictly speaking about this cards previous price point, which makes this a hot deal for THIS card alone. A 7900gt might outperform this but like you said its $50+ more, which might not mean alot to you, but here it can make a very big difference.

The 512mb X1800XL is nearly the same as the 512mb version of the XT. I read over at techpowerup some being able to flash the bios to XT since they use the same ram chips.

I was thinking the 512mb XL was probably just an XT that couldnt cut it, but i could be wrong.

I ordered the X1800XL 512mb card today for $219.99+$1.99 for 2day shipping. Although i feel i got a good deal the price dropped today down to $199.99, so i just missed it by about 2 or 3 hours i expect. Nevertheless, if i can overclock the card or update to the XT bios and run it stable then i will be more than happy with my purchase. If the card does not overclock i will feel like i paid retail price for a decent card and still will be happy with my purchase. I will report back with overclocking results.

looks like it's undervolted as default, similar to how the 7900GT is an undervolted 7900GTX. if the memory timings on this 512 MB card are as tight as the 256 MB cards, this might be a very killer card.

Seems to be down to $199 now. And I think there's a post in Hot Deals that shows you how to get this to a XT.

Yeah overclocking this beast to an XT would be a hell of a deal then. It would be like $100 cheaper than buying the 512mb XT card. :D
