Successful O/C'ers: Where did you buy your Duron from?

I have been looking through online retailers, and reading this forum on advice on what speed Duron to purchase in order to reach around the 1 Ghz mark. I am just afraid of buying, say a Duron 650, and having it O/C to 700.
For a motherboard, I would use the now famous MicroStar K7tPro2-A, and an Alpha PAL6035 for cooling. So please share where you bought your Duron from if it successfully overclocked.

Careful of OCZ, not the best rep. Be sure whoever you buy from uses something more permanent than a pencil and give you a warranty.

If you call up and ask for what week the Duron was manufactured from an online retailer, will they tell you? I suspect they won't know. Also, about the OCZ store, do they connect the L1 bridges by anything other than using a pencil? I am hoping that they use a more permanent solution. I am still weary of them.

I have a 600@900 from mwave.com. Great prices and fast shipping, but they will not guarantee a week or speed. For me, getting a guaranteed chip would take some of the fun out of it-luck of the drwa and all that. As cheap as Durons are you can always get another if you don't like it.

I just bought a Duron @1000, KT7-RAID, and HSF combo from OCZ. I emailed and asked if it came with thermal paste, to make sure I didn't need to get any. I was ready to order some Arctic Silver when I got an e-mail from Roy at OCZ that it came with "white silicone based thermal paste." I opened the box, and it didn't. Now I guess I need to go to Radio Shack to get the generic goop or something... :(. What would I ask for at Radio Shack?

Stay Away from any venders that sells overclock combos or pretested cpus unless you want to pay extra for that. You can buy 2 600 durons for $100 and chances are both will do at least 900 one might do 1GHz. I have bought three 600s from local vender and all 3 can do 1GHz so I would say the % of the chips that overclock well is very HIGH.

You are very lucky! I bought three and the current one does 950mhz. The others would only do 900mhz. I have all the right stuff. The temps are low. The other might when trying to post at 1000mhz the cpu only got up to 43C. Ir just can not get all the way into windows. I am so close everytime. Of course maybe the newer chips have a better chance. I got mine with the buy.com deal about 6 weeks ago.

Got mine at Buycomp.com awhile back. It's a retail 600 currently at 1008 MHz with a Taisol CGK742 Forged HS at 1.85 volts. It prolly has to do more with the week like they say, but I'm pretty sure that if you buy any retail Duron you're pretty much assured 850+ MHz. Good luck.

I got 4 Duron 600's today and none will go over 900. 2 wont do 850. :(

You guys that think it's a sure thing, don't have the exposure to the quantity of cpus I do.

I don't feel so bad now. I have a week 28 Duron 600 that I can only get to 850 (using Loktite). Anything higher usually won't even get into windows. Running it on a MSI K7T Pro-2A at 1.84 volts (closed the L7 bridges too). Using Taisol 742.
