Well, I just dropped the K6-2+ 500MHz I ordered from http://www.vegapc.com. I'm running it in a Tyan S1598C2 (BIOS 1.06c) board. Bumped the Vcore down to the default 2.0 and it POSTed right up as a K6-2+ 450, which is what I had it set at.

Am planning to see how high I can take this thing tonight, and I'll try to post back each time I boot and bench successfully so everyone interested knows how it's going. I don't have any games here (Mom's computer) so the best I'll be able to do is CPUmark 99 and 3DMark 2000 (original). Possibly I'll try some benches with Sandra, providing the DL doesn't take all year.

So far, I've been impressed with the chip. It seems just as fast as the K6-3 450 I had in here. I was so excited, I forgot to bench the K6-3 before I took it out. I think that I was getting like 51.0 in CPUmark with the K6-3, and this thing is getting like 41.0.

My sytem spec.'s are as follows:

Motherboard:____Tyan S1598C2, BIOS 1.06c
Video:_________3dfx Voodoo3 2000, default clocks
RAM:__________128MB Mushking PC100 -GH CAS2
Hard Disk:______Quantum Fireball EX 6.4GB
CDROM:________Toshiba XM-6202B (32x)
Sound:_________SoundBlaster AWE64 Gold 4MB

CPU's:_________K6-3 450, K6-2+ 450, more to follow.

Will post additional later. :)

Ok, I have some mixed success stories of my own. I bought 3 of the chips from Vega. I put them in my Asus P5A, using a Velocity 100 card w/ the latest drivers, using latest (1007) bios. All 3 chips would boot and display AMD 600-MMX, run up into Windows. I am running win98se. I sold 2 of the chips to my brother so he could put one in HIS P5A, also w/ the 1007 bios rev, and it will NOT boot correctly. States that there is a voltage mismatch, and whatever we jumper the board to, it displays in the bios .1 volts less. His board is 100% stable w/ a K6-2 500, no voltage mismatch. His system will boot to windows if you esc past the error, but it is not 100% stable. The chips will also NOT work w/ either a PcChips M590 or M598 mobo, mostly due to the fact (I think) that there are no hard jumpers, all settings are set in bios. My system is 100% at 600, running the chip at 2.1v. I don't have SiSoft Sandra, I'll have to get that and run it. Oh, I do have a little Passmark Performance test, got approx 20% increase over a k6-2 450 o/c to 500. Good luck!!

I am impressed how every review has taken them to 600mHz! I wonder if people are pushing the envelope hard enough on the FSB? :)

6x100=600mHz
6x112=673mHz *target acquired*

Sure its all fun and dandy to overclock the C!!, P!!!, and Athlons... but I still have an old SS7 board that supports 112FSB on the shelf. :)

well what voltage did you have it at? it's supposed to be max 2.0 volts... PowerNow! of course varies this and the clock speed, but only on mobo's that support it I think.

I want one of those!! DAH!! get a nice 500, and OC that b!tch to 600!

BTW, the K6-3+ just has PowerNow! and the extra 3DNow! instructions right?

The K6-III+ has twice the L2 cache of the K6-2+. Everything else is identical.

PowerNow! speed switching can be done on any mainboard. PowerNow! voltage switching can only be done on boards designed for "+" processors (providing a direct link from the processor socket to the CPU voltage regulator). However, if software tried to use the voltage switching feature, it would simply be ignored, and the CPU would still run at 2.0V. No harm done, yet no power saved :)

Peter- it has extended 3dnow instructions.

my system

Epox mvp2g2 rev 1.1 bios 4/3
128mb pc-133 mushkin ram
v3 2000@168
diamond monster mx300

aight mine posts as k6-2+ 500.

i overclocked to 560(112x5.0@2.0v) and ran it all last night cracking rc5 and downloading. didnt crash. works fine.

I have mine running steady as all get out at 600Mhz, I'm going to attempt to o/c the FSB, but I'm a bit leery. My Samsung hdd flaked on my massively the last time I tried to go to 110, had to re-install everything!

Both K6-2+ and K6-III+ have extended 3D-Now!.

They only differ in cache size (and CPUID, of course).

what's the best Heatsink/fan for Super 7 chips?

BTW, I've got my comp running 420 (4X 105). It would go higher I'm sure, but my CPU will NOT load windows at 450 (4.5X100) no matter what I do in terms of voltage. It's ok, if I ever get my hands on a K6-2+ or K6-3+, I'll most definetly hit 600, plus whatever I can eek out with my FSB!
