Subwoofer Whine

Greetings all,

So I just moved and started unpacking my speakers (TV/Living room). Hooked up my subwoofer and noticed a "whine" coming from it. Fairly pronounced. You couldn't watch the TV and not notice it for instance.

It isn't really high pitched. Doesn't have anything to do with the wire connection to the receiver as I unplugged that and still getting the noise. So, essentially, it just being plugged in produces it.

Changing the "gain" nob, the whine gets a little louder and lower in pitch as I increase.

It seems to work otherwise.

I'm not the smartest AV guy so if anyone needs more info let me know what kind and I'll try to provide it. Thanks.

Any ideas?

Filtering Cap going out on the power supply on your sub? Do you know what 60hz hum sounds like?

Sounds like there is something wrong with the amp. Get it checked out at a repair shop or time for a new sub. The sub might have been damaged in the move. Did you get your electronics inspected by a tech before the move?

I unplugged it and plugged it back in again and it stopped. Maybe I didn't have the plug pushed in all the way? Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.

I didn't have the stuff inspected before the move. Maybe next time I move I will.
