We are going to be moving into the upper level of a duplex and I need to figure out how to keep my Sub from annoying the people living beneath us. Does anyone know of a good way of doing this?

I was thinking of making a platform with springs or padding to dampen the sound so it doesn't go through the floor.

Another option is sound insulation. The duplex is going to be built over the next six months and I could get it installed. Does anyone have a guess as how much it would cost for a 12X13 room?
 
I don't think there's a really good way to do this. There was a similar thread recently and some insulation was brought up as a solution but it was like a couple thousand dollars to cover a medium sized wall if I remember.

Keep the sub turned down would be the easiest way 😉

When I needed to keep the volume down but still wanted some vibration action, I got some aura bass shakers attached to my furnature. It still shakes but the motion doesn't vibrate the walls/floor anywhere near the amount a sub would do.
 
this reason is preventing me from getting a townhouse i like. i would rather stay in an apartment with concrete walls.
 
Here is a odd idea.

What about hanging the sub from the ceiling? I belive they are 10ft ceilings, so it souldn't be in the way much.

I was talking with my Brother-in-law the other day. I was telling him that I really didn?t want to turn the sub off because it?s not the ?TUMP? that I like; it?s the clean bass for music. He suggested that I ditch the Klipsch Promedias and get a receiver set up with good 4-6" speakers so that I wouldn?t need a sub.

I saw that someone in FS/FT has a pretty good Yamaha 5.1 receiver and since I now have digital out on my soundcard I could hook it up through that. Then get a nice set of speakers for the front L/R channels and some mid-grade speakers for rear and center, and as I find money I can upgrade the rear and center.

Or I could get a really nice set of headphones. But then I wouldn?t have the 5.1 for games and movies.


Is it worth looking into?
