Subwoofer Misfires...

Uhem...

I have an Athena ps-400 10'' Subwoofer, and it keeps misfiring. I was interested to see what the cause was. From messing with it, the sound is edefinitely something that is outputed from my pc, as the sub works flawlessly otherwise.

Basically, I randomly get "BOOM!" sounds at REALLY REALLY low frequencies...shakes the floor.

Any ideas?

I am using a reciever via optical out from my pc. The sub itself is connected via the LFE output.

how is your receiver sending out an LFE signal ?

When I had my PC connected to my receiver LFE didn't even come up.

Basically was running 5.0 2 mains 2 rears and center.

Well, first ofall, I have the reciever set to have a subwoofer("subwoofer:Yes)

Second, the subwoofer is definitely working. During every type of output it is working, and splendidly I might add.

This problem just stated recently. I was sure it was the CD volume, but after muting everything but the wave(optical bypasses the master vol) it still contines...maybe once every 5 min..but it is not constatn. It can go hours, sometimes even days without doing it.

i have mine setup as auto decode...

I get bass from my 2 mains ... so Bass isn't an issue for me..

Mine does that as well...(Onkyo sr600)

Everything from Mp3s in DTS NEO:6 to DD and DTS DVD rock....this set of misfires is just weird...

Also, if I am playing music or basically ouputting any sound, this does not happen. Only during silence when my stereo is still on

maybe it's turning itself on or off. Basically when it doesn't receive signal it turns off and when it receives signal it turns on.

Here's the key...the sub has auto-off. It turns ON for the misfires....

THe light good remain red (off) for a while and when I hear the noise, I check it and it is now green(on)

Or are you talking about the reciever? No sound is outputed from my speakers. Also, the sub solume can be at zero and still the same vlume and sound eminates.

My woofer has auto on off as well.
When it doesn't receive signal from the receiver.. it doesn't do anything and goes into power save mode... but as soon as it receives a signal ... it turns itself on and i hear a low thump at first, and it resumes it's fuction right after that.
