subwoofer doesnt work

ok, so ive had these speakers for a couple of years now, and never had a problem with them, at all. but just recently, i noticed that my subwoofer doesnt work anymore. the satellite speakers, which are routed through the subwoofer (inputs go into the subwoofer), work perfectly. whats going on here? what can i do to try to fix it?

its not a problem with the cords, ive tried multiple ones. its also not an input problem. ive tried it with my computer, my friends laptop, and 2 different ipods. HELP!

Generaly the only reason this would happen is if the woofer in the sub went bad, or if the Sub is on a seperate amp then the lowpass portion of the amp or the amp failed. If its under warrenty I'd suggest sending it in to get fixed, otherwise its prolly time for a new set of speakers unless you want to try replacing the woofers or checking the amp to see what went wrong.

About a year ago when I was searching for new speakers (and when I got the MegaWorks 550), I was looking up the Altec-Lansing 641s on Google because they are supposed to be a very nice set. It turned out, however, that they were discontinued becuase almost everyone who had them for a couple of years would end up with a non-working unit. There supposed was a problem with the amplifier that wasn't found until a couple of years into their product life (since the problem occurred about 2 years after initial purchase) and so Altec just stopped making them.

You can search for the Altec 641s on Google to find out more on this issue. The short version is that you may in fact have a dead set.
