Subwoofer cable

I just ordered the Energy ESW-V8 http://www.energy-speakers.com/na-en/products/esw-v8-specifications/ and need to connect it to my Onkyo HT-RC160 receiver.

Is this the proper cable to use? http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10236&cs_id=1023603&p_id=2682&seq=1&format=2

Does monoprice have a better cable that I should use or is the above sufficient?

That cable will work fine. Just hook it up to either one of your receivers purple subwoofer pre outs.

Any old video cable is fine. RG-59 is sufficient and on average more flexible. That one is rated for in-wall so may be even less so. Also, such "premium" looking connectors are often only cosmetic and the spring feature is faulty (though at least can be crimped a bit if out of spec). In short, there is little reason to over spend and it may end up being worse for the application.

So, which 12ft. cable would you recommend? Does it need to be digital?

That one looks better. The digital schtick is just colour coding at best and marketing at worst. Many folks have yellow plug composite video cables left over and those are the same thing. Likewise any part of a component cable. Even cable/sat stuff is the same with just different connectors.

digital cable is 110ohm standard audio cable is 35 to 50ohm. that is the difference. You don't need digital cable to hook up a sub though.

Pretty sure digital cable TV uses RG-6, which is 75ohm.

for digital video or SPDIF digital audio, this means a 75 ohm cable like Belden 1694A;
for AES/EBU balanced digital audio, this means a 110 ohm cable like Belden 1800F.
