How do i get my Denon 1913 reciever to detect my subwoofer manually? I connected the subwoofer port from the AVR to the LFE in on the SVS PB1000 but my sub isn't making any noises. I was assuming the receiver would auto detect the sub but it doesnt seem to make any sounds.

The subwoofer is on because i see a blue light coming from it.

Edit
I i dont have the AVR mic yet so that might be why

Did you check in the audio/speaker settings of the amp to make sure that LFE is on? Or set the speaker setup to a .1 setup?

How do i check and see if LFE on the AVR is on? I only have the Denon 1913 and SVS PB100 subwoofer. I don't have any extra amps if that is what you were asking when you said "audio/speaker setting of the amp".

My apologies, I meant receiver.

t. Sub not working:
If there is no audio coming from the sub, it could be the sub is dead, the sub's power cord isn't plugged in and the sub powered ON, the sub coax digital cable is bad, there is an issue with the AVR sub preout, or the AVR's speaker settings are incorrect. First make sure the sub is plugged in and powered ON. Remove the cable from the AVR sub preout jack and rub your finger over the connector tip. You should hear some static from the sub. If not, replace the cable with another cable (use a "yellow" composite video cable to test with) and try again. If still no noise from the sub, then you may have a busted sub. Otherwise if there is noise from the sub, the issue is with the AVR. Make sure that all speakers are set to SMALL (Manual Setup as well as 2CH Direct/Stereo custom settings if your model has this feature) with no lower than 80hz crossovers which will then pass all audio below 80hz to the sub. If you have your front speakers set to LARGE and the sub set to LFE, then although the sub will play the low bass in the 0.1 (LFE) channel during DD/DTS 5.1 movies, it will not play the low bass in stereo (2.0) music unless you change the sub setting to LFE+Main, although the issue with no bass during music is alleviated if the front mains are set to SMALL w/80hz crossovers as is suggested after running AUTO SETUP.

Hey thanks for the advice. I actually ran across that information on setting large and small too but the problem is that, I can't seem to find any of those options on the Denon. I'll try and go through the manual again. thanks.

The sub does make noise when I rub my fingers around the cable.

Page 98 of the manual shows how to get into the Audio setup. Once there, page 101 shows subwoofer settings. There is a setting to turn the subwoofer output on/off. Make sure it is on.

If I am recalling correctly, this is a floor unit you bought? If so, you should do a factory reset of the entire unit. God only knows what people did to the think while it was sitting around.

FYI, this is a good resource for Denon AVR products: http://batpigworld.com/wp/

Yup. This was the display unit. How do you do a factory reset? I had to download the manual. Will search to see if it shows me on how to do a factory reset.

Do a search of the main Denon thread on avsforum.com. There will be a lot of posts on this issue. Gotta run to dinner or I would look it up for you. If you can wait a couple of hours, I'll try to post later.

Okay, it works now. Thanks guys. I'm getting some sound from the subwoofer. Now I need to wait for my mic to get it calibrated right. Awesome. Sounds nice.

never mind the below, seems you got it working

i think all denons has the same reset procedure

this worked for me in the past
http://www.ehow.com/how_7435226_reset-denon-receiver-factory-defaults.html

also it may have changed i have the 1911 and you can turn the LFE on and off just using the front panel display, however i know the 1613 i got for my dad needs a monitor attached to see stuff, you should be able to just plug a HDMI into it and a comp monitor to bring op the OSD assuming its not connected to a TV

Yeah, that was my main problem. I couldn't see the setup without plugging in an HDMI into the HDMI arc from the receiver into the HDMI arc of the TV.

I want to get ARC up and running but it seems like too much of a hassle to setup. I might try again later. The problem I believe i was having when I was having trouble setting up ARC was that i needed to turn it on for both the AVR and the TV. I think i might be able to do that now. Need to wait for the Denon to finish it's firmwire update before i can try ARC again.

This brings up another question. How do I see the menu setup screen if I use both ARC ports? Seems like too much trouble, maybe i'll just stick with optical for audio.

This is what I did with both my 2112ci and 1713. I'm not sure that I exhausted all avenues for making CRC work well. However, I am 100% certain that I exhausted my patience. The problem with CRC in many instances is that you're dealing with the differing ways in which the various vendors (your TV and your AVR manufacturer) implement CRC. Some do it well and others do it, well, not so good.

Okay, I finally got ARC working. Both my video and sound is passing through one HDMI cable to the TV. I had to turn ARC on both the TV and the AVR.
