subway charges more for a POP and CHIPS if you buy a DOUBLE MEAT SUB

so i go into a walmart subway today (yeah, i know, bad idea to begin with), and i order a sub with double meat along with a pop and chips

when i get up to the cashier, she tells me some ridiculous price over 10$! so i ask why its so high, and she says: "we charge more for a drink and chips if you buy double meat"

me: 😵 ... "are you serious?"

her: "yeah. your drink and chips cost more if you buy double meat on your sub"

me: "do you realize how stupid that sounds? same pop, same chips, but they cost more because i got more meat on my sandwich"

her: "im sorry but thats how it works" /hands on hips

me: 😵 ... "i want to talk to the manager"

so i talk to the manager, and he too insists that thats correct!

THEY WOULDNT GIVE ME ANY MONEY BACK

i may never eat at a subway again

Good. I'm sure it is a health initiative that also has fiscal incentives for them. Seems like a win for everybody, especially the lard assed who won't order chips and soda anymore.

Buy your sandwich and then purchase your chips and drink as a separate transaction. Problem solved.
Oh and never eat there again.

why didn't you just decline the soda and chips?

the drink you fill yourself after you pay at every subway ive been to and the chips are bagged. there should have been no issue just ringing up the sub alone

I wonder if it is part of a "meal" package with regular meat but a la carte when you add the double meat to the sandwhich?

In other words you were getting a discount on the drink and chips when you buy a regular sub.

sure it's not just the wallyworld subway? iirc most have some sign that says 'make it a meal for $2'

Probably something like that. The chips and drink probably cost the same with all meals, but it gets rung up differently because part of the price is included in another product.

I've receipts where the meal and drink are listed separately. For example, you order a $6.00 combo meal and your receipt says:
Combo: $4.50
Drink: $1.50

The more important question: Why is Wendy's still sticking with the soda/pop fountain behind the counter? I understand it discourages refills, but the tradeoff in time wasted by employees who are trying to take orders and fill orders at the same time is probably costing the company more money. Now my Wendy's started doing the "one way only" with food handling, so if you want a refill, they won't take your cup, they'll give you a whole new one. What a waste of a cup.

The Wendy's near me allows self service beverage refills.

As long as they keep making the Baconator they can do whatever the fuck they want to do with their soda dispensers...

That is pretty funny. For breakfast, it is the opposite. You can get a 6 inch breakfast sandwich and a coffee for 3.26, less than the price of the sandwich.

I refuse to purchase soda a majority of the time when I go out. I'm not paying 2 bucks for a cup of it when I could get 3 -2 liters at fred meyer for 2.70.
