Subscription Based Services

So, I'm curious to what you guys think about this.

There are many subscription based sites or services on the web that have a free trial period and then after so long they begin billing you.

I have seen on the web where people sign up for these, use it for 2 weeks (or not at all), then never cancel there account. Then 8 months later want all of their fees back and get angry when it gets denied because they didn't cancel.

How do you guys feel about that? Is it right for companies to do that and not refund you if you don't use it or is it ethically right for the company to refund consumers because they didn't cancel?

Thoughts?

If you don't cancel it, there's no reason to expect a refund. I got a 4 month free trial of Amazon.com Prime, but they give you the option of specifying that you don't want to "renew" at the end of your trial period. I like that way, but I don't think companies should be obligated to do it that way either.

Reverse the perspective - if your employer paid you a bunch of money then decided they didn't want to pay you because they didn't use your work, you'd raise holy hell. 🙂
